Lionsgate's New 'Power Rangers' Movie Set for a July 2016 Release
by Ethan Anderton
August 13, 2014
Briefly: After just announcing a new feature film version of Power Rangers earlier this summer, Lionsgate has dated the film to hit theaters on July 22nd, 2016. All we know so far is that X-Men: First Class and Thor writers Ashley Miller & Zack Stentz will script the film that will be executive produced by Star Trek and Transformers franchise writer and producer Roberto Orci. Somehow the film will keep the mythology of all the original TV series and films intact, likely by simply following a new group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world. We really don't know what to expect from this one. Stay tuned for more.

I'm really excited to take a nap after I eat my pizza that's in the oven. Oh wait, we are naming irrelevant things, right?

Well I'm excited for those also for totally different reasons. Those looks like brilliant films...this, on the other hand, I'm excited for more nostalgic reasons and to see if they'll actually try to make a Power Rangers movie with some effort. Though I wouldn't be disappointed with another Ivan Ooze 😉

The real question will be glossy suits or spandex suits? Personally, pulling for the OG spandex ones.

While Im all for power rangers nostalgia, im not sure who their target audience is here or what their strategy is. I feel like its not going to be a great movie no matter what, and kids these days arent going to see it unless theres a bunch of fancy CGI, but die hard fans are going to feel betrayed if there arent any rubber suited villains and cheesy one liners. Im all for it, im just not sure how they expect to make any money off of it.

I knew from a young age that Power Rangers wasn't real. But I still loved every bit of it and dreamed of being a Power Ranger. I wanted to grow up and audition for a role but my dreams were pretty much shattered when the production moved to New Zealand. I'm 20 years old now and I'm in pretty good shape. I know this is a long shot but if anyone from firstshowing.net can help me reach out to the casting directors of this film that would be make my life.
