M. Night Shyamalan is Now Filming Microbudget Horror 'Sundowning'

Well, what do we have here? M. Night Shyamalan is apparently out making a "microfilm", or a film on a microbudget, titled Sundowning and is shooting it as we speak. Maybe Shyamalan did heed the advice of critics and go back home to make something small and independent. Our friends at SlashFilm have noticed Shyamalan tweeting recently about Sundowning, which is now shooting mostly around Philadelphia as he at one point mentions digging out a house covered in a foot of snow. It may or may not have anything to do with Shyamalan's other new film Labor of Love, which just got Bruce Willis, as M. Night boasts at another point "the cast is sensational." This instead seems to be a horror: "They literally jumped out of their seats."
Here's a look at some of the media for Sundowning so far, all of it from Shyamalan's own twitter account:
In addition to photos, Shyamalan also posted tweets about the production, revealing that shooting started last week and they're filming somewhere very cold and snowy. "I hope I don't screw this up," he joked once.
Principal Photography begins on February 19th. Did my final tweaks to the script in my snowbound state yesterday.

Btw had a read thru with the cast. It was the smallest table of any movie. About ten of us in a small room at at hotel. Amazing!

There were three people there who hadn't read the script and read smaller parts. They literally jumped out of their seats.

The cast is sensational. The performances were so captivating. I was walking on air as I went home. I hope I don't screw this up.

Here's another photo posted with the twitter caption: "On location on #Sundowning" - nice and cold there.
That's all on Sundowning for now - follow @MNightShyamalan for updates as they continue production.
For now we're going to have to keep watching closely to see what Sundowning is all about. But I like the way he's doing this, making a movie very quietly, off on his own, with a small crew. It's exactly what Shyamalan should be doing, I just hope he can regain his footing and find himself again in the midst of all of this. I'm not sure what to make of this new film just yet, but a horror in a cold and snowy place kind of sounds just about right, and I'll be curious to find out what it is - although I have a feeling the experience will be best saved for a film festival cinema. We'll be watching for any other major updates on Shyamalan's Sundowning or any other films he's making, since it seems there are a few in the works. Thanks to SlashFilm for the tip.

Who cares? Guy made 1 movie to wide acclaim (6th Sense) and another that was much better but not as well received (Unbreakable). Every thing else was complete shit. He is not a good film maker, he is a hack.

And furthermore, he managed to screw up any hopes of a sequel to his best film (Unbreakable) after going to great lengths to structure the plot around one and littering the movie with clues to subsequent films. Normally I'd applaud a director for avoiding sequels, but when you build anticipation for it, intentionally allude to it throughout the first, then abandon it and make a handful of movies that were frequently awarded "worst of the year" instead, yeah, I'm gonna hold it against you.

He is arguably one of the most shit-on directors working today. It would give me much pleasure for him to direct something that silences the haters.

He is shit on with good reason, his movies suck. BY "haters" I assume you mean people who like good movies.

No. I mean, haters more in the traditional sense; a person who greatly dislikes a specified person or thing. Ya hater.

You keep using that word, I do not think you know what it means. "Hater-A person that simply cannot be happy for another person's success. So rather than be happy they make a point of exposing a flaw in that person." I hold no ill will for his success and do not judge him based on personal flaws. I judge HIS MOVIES based on how much they make sense , are directed well and how enjoyable they are. M;Night is probably a nice guy, he just makes bad movies.

Hey man, it's cool. I have no ill will towards you, M Night, or his work. And we all have different definitions of the word hater. I just pulled mine off the oxford dictionary website, you pulled yours off urban dictionary. It's all good. If you don't think you're a hater, well, good. Whatever helps you sleep at night, sir.

This is exciting news. I'm pulling for him. I enjoy his films more than most people do. Although Airbender sucked and After Earth was well, eh. I still think he has it in him though.

Sixth Sense & Signs two my favorites of all time. I like Village & Happening either. But YES , he came back for horror again. GOOD DECISION.

OH. PRAISE. GOD. I've been rooting for him to make a proper comeback for a while now. After Earth wasn't bad, but I want suspense/horror Shyamalan back.
