Earlier this month, Warner Bros. picked up Shane Black's next film The Nice Guys, starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, and set it for release on June 17th, 2016. Now the cast is starting to fill out with Deadline reporting that Matt Bomer (Magic Mike, The Normal Heart) has landed a role in the film, though specifics on his character haven't been revealed at this time. The story follows Jackson Healy (Crowe), a recovering alcoholic and muscle-for-hire, who ends up working with Holland March (Gosling), a private eye and practicing alcoholic, following the suicide of a fading porn star. But it's bigger than that.
The victim's aunt is fully convinced that she saw her niece alive after the incident became news, and so begins March's case, which turns into a murder conspiracy tied into the American auto industry, the span of which can't be fathomed. Apparently Bomer's character is somehow involved in the conspiracy, but that's the only detail revealed about his role. Bomer is on the verge of being a solid big screen star, but he needs the right role to show off. This is a guy who would have been Superman in a trilogy of films being put together by Brett Ratner before it all fell apart, so he's got potential for sure. Stay tuned for more.
