Max Borenstein is Returning to Script 'Godzilla 2' for Gareth Edwards
Briefly: After scripting the successful reboot of Godzilla this past summer, Deadline reports writer Max Borenstein has been brought back to Legendary Pictures to script Godzilla 2, which has already been given a release date of June 8th, 2018. That's pretty far out, mainly since director Gareth Edwards has a Star Wars spin-off to direct before he returns to the King of Monsters, but it's good to hear that Legendary is getting Borenstein to work on the script right away. He's also writing Skull Island, which just landed director Jordan Vogt-Roberts behind the camera and Tom Hiddleston in front of it. All we know so far is Godzilla 2 will bring monsters have Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah into the mix, so stay tuned for more.

Yeh the budget constraints on the first one meant they could only afford to pay him for 5 min of screen time.

I'm hoping his writing skill has improved since the first film. It wasn't terrible, but it definitely wasn't great either. It's only because the film was in the hands of Gareth Edwards that it managed to turn out as good as it did with the script and the budget. Needs to work on characters the most, but plotting and pacing seems alright.

Great news. I really liked the last one's dialogue. As long as they give us more action.
