Mel Gibson Wants a 'Taken' Revival with 'Blood Father' Action Thriller

Mel Gibson

With Liam Neeson having some fun reinvigorating his career with the Taken franchise, and action stars like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger staying in the game with The Expendables and this weekend's Sabotage, maybe it's time for another former action star to make a comeback. Mel Gibson hasn't been all that busy with projects lately, mostly because of his tabloid headline-making behavior, but the guy just might get a chance at getting back on the public's good side soon enough. Deadline has word that Gibson is in talks to lead an action thriller called Blood Father from The Town writer Peter Craig.

The film follows an ex-con who reunites with his estranged wayward 16-year old daughter to protect her from drug dealers who are trying to kill her. It seems appropriate that the company willing to get Gibson back in the spotlight is Why Not Productions, with Mesrine director Jean-Francois Richet sitting behind the camera for this one. Honestly, knowing that Gibson still has the goods, especially in the underrated The Beaver, it would be great to see him get back to action again. The guy deserves a second chance, and he's always been a great actor. We hope this one comes together.

Comeback? You do realise Mel Gibson is the villain in Expendables 3 right?

LyonsMG on Mar 28, 2014

I can't wait to see Mel Gibson again.... fall off the wagon that is. There's nothing quite as enjoyable as seeing this talentless trainwreck come off the rails again. Of course after he does and spews a racist tirade, he will beg forgiveness and his followers will grovel at his feet once more. That's ENTERTAINMENT!!

Talentless? well, now I know you're ignorant.

ColtNoir on Mar 31, 2014

Why give this bigot another chance?

SkyNet300 on Mar 28, 2014

don't like? then don't watch it, people, it's as simple as that.

ColtNoir on Mar 31, 2014

Cant wait to see him back, all he needs to do is give some $$$$ to you know and move on

Far worse things have been said about Jews before. Hollywood do-gooders need to get over themselves and give this man another chance. He's a fantastic actor.

Trey Wilson on Mar 28, 2014

It must be nice for all of you condemning the guy to have never done or said anything stupid that you regret when you were fucked up. Unfortunately for me, I have been stupid while drunk before. Luckily I didn't have the entire world watching my private life and passing judgement though.

Astroboy3000 on Mar 28, 2014

I've been drunk PLENTY of times and have never said anything close to "I hope you get raped by a pack of n******. They say a persons true feelings are on display when they drink and I believe it. I believe what mel says when he drinks. I think he's a liar when he's sober. Can't wait to hear what he has to say next time he falls off the wagon. Should be good.

Chuckee Knowlton on Mar 29, 2014

So saying something racist when drunk and enraged is wrong, but hoping someone falls back into addiction and suffering is all good? cool. I guess you're a better person than Mel Gibson.

Astroboy3000 on Mar 29, 2014

He certainly wasn't drunk when he did that TV interview and asked the reporter if he had a dog in this fight. Incredibly (sober) racist statement. I won't apologize for wanting to see this a-hole fall off the wagon. It's plain to see there are more than a few racist posters here as well defending the guy any chance they get. Go Mel!! Drink up!!

Chuckee Knowlton on Mar 30, 2014

"They say", always a very reliable source.

Brian Sleider on Mar 30, 2014

Cause im sure you have every drunken moment caught on tape of you acting like an impeccable gentleman right?! GTFOH

true so true...

Avi on Mar 31, 2014

Don't care about any of that tabloid bullshit. The man has provided years of badassery, and I want him back.

grimjob on Mar 28, 2014

Mel has done his penance in the wilderness for what he said. He said some harsh things but he was either angry, drunk or both and we all say or do foolish things then. He's also helped people, Britney Spears might not be here now without him. He's a great star and director and it would be a shame if he was forced into early retirement because of something said in the heat of the moment. Time to move on.

MessengerOfTheGods on Mar 28, 2014

With guys like Arnie and Sly getting films made even though they can't act their way out of a hat, it would be nice to see someone with talent, like Mel, get another shot.

Jon Odishaw on Mar 28, 2014

I guess Rocky, Rambo and Terminator were all awful then...

LyonsMG on Mar 30, 2014

I think you may be slightly missing the point there bud

Jon Odishaw on Mar 30, 2014

I have always enjoyed Mel's movies and have never stopped believing in the guy just because he became a little unhinged at a point in his life, thus unconsciously spewing out a drunken rant. Everyone has fallouts at some point in there life. At least when Mel falls, he makes the effort to get back on his feet.

Passion of the Christ 2.

cobrazombie on Mar 30, 2014

Met Gibson is a big hypocrit but a great actor... The first we are all the second not. So let Mell make some badass movies. There is some craziness, compulsive behavior in him, like Tom Cruise. And they both are great actors without a doubt!
