Michael Pena Finds Ridley Scott's 'The Martian' Starring Matt Damon

Briefly: Following word that Jessica Chastain and Kristen Wiig were in early talks for a couple of female roles in Ridley Scott's forthcoming sci-fi drama The Martian starring Matt Damon, another talent has entered the fray as well. Variety reports End of Watch star Michael Pena has entered talks to take a role, but much like Chastain, his involvement depends on how the rest of his schedule shakes out. Likely, Pena would be part of Damon's crew in the story of an astronaut forced to be left stranded on Mars and must figure out how to stay alive long enough to get back home. It sounds like a promising cast is slowly coming together, but with November 25th, 2015 coming, they better hurry, because production has to start soon.

Funny you mention that, because... "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" (1964) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058530/

Kinda wish this wasn't set on Mars. It's as if they want us to imagine "Castaway" on a grander scale, with space as a substitute for the ocean. But it feels lazy that they chose Mars instead of any other solar system planet or moon, when there have been so many Mars films in the past 25 years, all of them dealing to some degree with being stranded there... Total Recall, Escape From Mars, Red Planet, Mission To Mars, Ghosts Of Mars, Doom, Stranded, John Carter, The Last Days On Mars. (Even Species II starts out on Mars).

Geez, I have been waiting for so long for Pena's career to take off. He is such a capable actor. I fear the time will never come for him. Such a shame.
