Boyhood

After some recent photos showed the aging of actor Ellar Coltrane from 2002 to 2013, the first trailer that shows off the coming-of-age epic Boyhood from director Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, Before Midnight) has arrived, and it's glorious. Touting the unique production angle that had Linklater shooting this film for 11 years, using the same actors, including Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette, the trailer is basically a highlight reel of a film that perfectly encapsulates what it's like to grow up, without hitting all the cliche trials and tribulations that we've seen countless times before. It's a masterpiece. Watch!

Here's the first trailer for Richard Linklater's Boyhood, in high def on Apple (via The Film Stage):

And here's another slightly different UK version of the first Boyhood trailer, found right on YouTube:

Filmed from 2002 to 2013, Boyhood covers 12 years in the life of a family. Mason (Ellar Coltrane) and his older sister, Samantha (Lorelei Linklater), learn to face the realities of growing up, while their divorced parents cope with the ongoing challenges of parenting in an ever-evolving landscape. Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, School of Rock, Before Sunrise, Bernie) directs the film, using the same actors, including Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette as the Mason's parents, over 11 years of production. The film premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and IFC Films will release it in limited theaters July 11th.

Wow, that was surprisingly moving...I thought this movie was going to be a documentary, something like Apted's "seven series". This looks fantastic.

Michael Winterbottom's Everyday (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1037223/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_5) did a similar thing, casting a trio of kids across 4 or 5 years, while their father was in prison. Very cool film too.
