Next month marks the triumphant return of the hit HBO series "Game of Thrones," and in between production, The Wrap reports series regular Peter Dinklage is taking a lead role in the adaptation of the impressive video game infused sci-fi adventure short film Pixels. The film is set up at Sony Pictures with Adam Sandler both starring in the film and producing by way of his Happy Madison production banner. The story follows a group of video game experts who are recruited by the government to help deal with the threat of popular 1980s video game characters attacking NYC. Dinklage will be one of these video game warriors.
Dinklage joins Sandler and his frequent co-star Kevin James along with Frozen star Josh Gad as the four men recruited to fight the pixelated threats destroying the city. There's the potential for this to be great, but we're worried that Sandler and his cronies are going to ruin a great concept. But maybe with Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone) at the helm, this could turn out all right. It was the script form Tim Herlihy, rewritten by Tim Dowling (Just Go with It) that finally convinced Sandler and Columbus to team up, combining Sandler's brand of humor with the action of a big tentpole to hopefully form a sort of Ghostbusters comedy. We're hoping for the best, but we'll wait for a trailer to get excited.
