Quentin Tarantino Confirms 'Hateful Eight' Shoot, Has Sci-Fi Desires
Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino was at Comic-Con over the weekend to promote a crossover comic book between his titular character form Django Unchained teaming up with the swift swordsman Zorro. But of course, the discussion eventually turned to his film projects, which is where production of his western The Hateful Eight was brought up. Following word from Kurt Russell that director Quentin Tarantino was trying to line up an early 2015 production start for the once postponed film, Tarantino himself has confirmed that the film will indeed go before cameras, though didn't solidify exactly when. But that's not all.
Tarantino was also asked whether or not he would like to jump into the realm of fantasy or sci-fi, both genres that he has yet to touch as a writer and director. Funnily enough, The Guardian quotes Tarantino as saying, "If you had asked me a few years ago I would have said, 'Nah, not really, I don't know.' But i have a little idea right now. It's a little flower, you know, like a bean sprout, but those tend to grow into stalks. So this is the first time I'll be able to say "maybe". It won't be a spaceship sci-fi, it'll be Earthbound." This is exactly how all of Tarantino's projects start off, and before you know it a script is done and he's got The Weinsteins on board to help make it. We'd love to see Tarantino venture into sci-fi or fantasy. Thoughts?

I love scifi and I LOVE Tarantino but I don't see the two meshing. Although I do want him to try a new genre. He will always have my money.

Like George RR Martin says, whether you are writing sci-fi or fantasy, all that really changes is the 'furniture'. QT is great at dialogue, character interplay, and building long scenes of tension that then explode in violence. I think that in any setting/genre could be great.

I could see him take on the fabled "bounty hunters" film or maybe centered on the forest moon of Endor?

I think it could work. There have been sci-fi exploitation films and he could do something in that aesthetic. Like Rodriguez did.

Dig it. Absolutely. But I remember in an interview some years ago, must have been right after Basterds, he mentioned he wanted to do either a western or a roaring 20's flick. I'd still like to see Tarantino-style Prohibition gangsters.
