Richard Gere & David Strathairn Book 'Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2'
After becoming a surprise hit in 2012, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was revealed to be getting a sequel from Fox Searchlight with the original film's director John Madden returning, along with writer Ol Parker. There's no book for the film to be based on this time, but the story focuses on Dev Patel and Maggie Smith co-managing The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel for the Elderly and Beautiful. Returning cast includes Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup, Penelope Wilton, Diana Hardcastle, Tena Desae and Lillete Dubey, but there are some new cast members checking into the hotel, and it will not be Colin Firth and Helen Mirren as reported back in December of 2012. More below!
At the start of the film, the hotel has one vacancy left, and Richard Gere and Tamsin Greig are the couple who snag it. In addition, David Strathairn has also landed a role in the film, and we assume he's already staying at the hotel when the final guests arrive. Interestingly enough, this is the first sequel ever released by Fox Searchlight, which seems like a miracle today. Madden told Variety, “This film presented us with an irresistible opportunity: to continue a story we realized we had only just begun. Not to tell the same story again, but to pursue where the lives of these very different characters lead, with an audience which already holds them in great affection.” Hopefully it's as charming as the first film. Interested?
