Ryan Gosling Sought After for 'Doctor Strange' and 'Suicide Squad'
The last couple days have brought some big news for fans of both Marvel and DC Comics movies, and now one actor in particular has drawn the attention of both sides. THR reports Ryan Gosling, a gifted actor who has strayed away from big franchises and blockbusters, is currently being courted for two big comic book roles. First, Marvel Studios has met with the actor to take the title role of Doctor Strange, joining names like Ewan McGregor and more who are also in the running. Since Gosling is just one of many names, and doesn't seem all that interested in these kind of films, don't hold your breath, but it's possible. Read on!
On the other hand, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment wait to get Gosling on board for Suicide Squad, the project that was just dated today for release in August of 2016. The film follows a group of super villains trying to redeem themselves by working for the government as a sort of disavowed Impossible Mission Force. But Gosling isn't the big name the studio is trying to wrangle as Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Margot Robbie are also wanted for roles in the ensemble action film. Those seem like tall orders, especially for an ensemble film, and even more especially after Marvel proved with Guardians of the Galaxy that you don't need big stars to make an ensemble like that work.
But if neither of those films seem appealing to Gosling, the trade also notes that Summit Entertainment is trying to get Gosling to lead their adaptation of The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America's First Superhero. Johnny Depp was most recently linked to the role in May, but with production on Pirates of the Caribbean 5 beginning in February, that doesn't really jive with the timetable Summit has to get the film off the ground, so they're looking for a new lead. Could any of these movies tickle Gosling's fancy? The actor has a problem with the commitment that comes with franchise films, which is why he turned down Green Lantern and the role went to Reynolds. Anyway, all of these projects should have more solid casting news coming up soon, so we'll keep you posted.
Can Gosling do any wrong? Nope!

So badass in Drive.
mooreworthy on Oct 15, 2014
All he did in Drive was stare at the camera and make other actors feel uncomfortable with his long silences.

*In Ryan Gosling voice* "You come back here again... I'm gonna cast this spell down your throat... you got it?... eehhhhhhhh...".

Let's start over again with who isn't potentially going to be playing Doctor Strange.

I agree. When I read this headline I threw up a little bit in my mouth!! This guy couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag. I'd rather see Nick Nolte as Strange than this cardboard cutout! WORST CHOICE EVER!!

I'm glad I'm not alone. I expected to get flamed for saying so!
Michael Owens on Oct 16, 2014
I'd normally agree but I think we have to wait for a role that'll show his range. So far, none have.
ragethorn on Oct 17, 2014
So, from the non-range he has shown, why is he touted as the 'big thing' Baffles me. I've seen better acting in porn!
Michael Owens on Oct 17, 2014
I agree. No doubt. Say what you want though, he's great in Lars & the Real Girl, Drive, Half Nelson, Blue Valentine & the Place Beyond the Pines.
ragethorn on Oct 18, 2014
Drive... The Place Beyond the Pines... The Ides of March... The Believer... Have you watched any one of these? Your implication is simply idiotic.

Michael Owens on Dec 3, 2014
