Ryan Reynolds as the Real 'Deadpool' in Leaked Test Reel Footage
by Ethan Anderton
July 28, 2014
For anyone who saw X-Men Origins: Wolverine, you were probably disappointed by the bastardized version of the cocky, hilarious and deadly Marvel character Deadpool. The film took away the best asset of the Merc with a Mouth, and we've yet to see any real progress on a feature film version that would have featured Ryan Reynolds in the role, but in the proper fashion. We've even heard of a test reel that was done by VFX wizard and director Tim Miller for Fox. And now if you're quick, you can get a vibe for what a Deadpool movie might have looked like (or hopefully will look like) with a leaked video showing some of the footage.
Here's the leaked test footage from Deadpool for the time being (we'll replace if/when can) from JoBlo:
Update! For those wondering about this, Deadpool creator Robert Liefeld did also tweet this out earlier:
That is ALL 100% Ryan Reynolds in MO-CAP performance. Suit was digitally layered by Miller and Blur.

Update #2! You can also see a behind-the-scenes shot of the test reel here, but that's all Fox will let out.
If the video above isn't working, it features Deadpool talking to the audience, just like he does in the comic book (and also singing "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani) before taking a plunge from an overpass into an SUV filled with thugs. An impressive action sequence plays out, almost in The Raid 2 fashion with Deadpool being a smart ass and kicking ass at the same time. It's exactly what a Deadpool movie should be, and we wish Fox would just let this footage be seen so that they can really get a gauge from audiences who have been dying to see this project happen for years. The character looks great, and Reynolds is the perfect man to bring him to life. Last we heard was the film was still trying to get a greenlight and director Tim Miller was hopeful that it would finally get off the ground. How badly do you want a Deadpool movie?

I'm wondering if we all saw the same test footage... because you all seem to be praising this... but what I just saw was complete bull shit.

Don't you have to go be a tree somewhere else?

Do other people's opinions bother you so much? I'm just curious as to why people would praise this... main character = 100% cgi. Not one joke landed for me. The physics behind the action was not believable at all. & to top it all off: Ryan Reynolds.

Of course it's cgi it's test footage not a trailer...Ryan Reynolds is perfect for the role.

Jon's right here. CGI because it's test footage. Did you expect them to design a real suit, come up with real action sequences, and a variety of other "real" things for test footage? I'm not in the movie business and I even know that wouldn't happen, thus CGI is totally fine. In fact, this is far better than most test footage I've seen (spliced clips from old movies mixed together with cartoon drawings almost). Also, I get that people don't like Ryan Reynolds, but I think he's perfect for this role. Given a good script, he'd be hilarious, crude, and great with action.

You are wrong, because when speaking in opinions on movies, and personal taste, there is no right or wrong & also because this test footage sucks ass.

you're complaining about someone disagreeing with your opinion when you initially called everyone else's opinion crap...of course someone's going to reply to in that way.

I actually thought that was fantastic. I think it would be a sweet twist on the typical superhero movie we're starting to get used to. Reynolds would be pretty hilarious in that role, and could also fill the athletic needs that a Deadpool character requires. This may not be a massive blockbuster movie (due to it likely being overly crude and thus R-rated) but I think it'd be widely successful if done right.

I think it's awesome but I can't call it a Live Action, the people are CGI...

Read my comment. It's 100% CGI. Just because it's test footage does not necessarily mean it's going to be CGI.....besides, if this is going to be a live action film, it would make more sense to have a couple live action frames in there as "Test Footage"
TheOct8pus on Jul 29, 2014
17
Exactly. its 100% CGI this is to sell to the studio, and they didn't have a ton of money to use a real bunch of actors.

Just saw it at http://www.thedevilseyes.com/2014/07/deadpool-leaked-test-footage-ryan-reynolds.html Let's make it happen with a R rating! Reynolds has it down, although North has my heart, literally, I'm looking at him right now as I am dying.

For those bitching about this being completely CGI - test screenings are low budgeted and the best way for them to get their message across to the studio would be to do exactly what they did and create it in CGI. I would suggest getting a clue about how much time, effort and MONEY goes into getting a film greenlit before making disparaging remarks. This test footage goes to show that Fox are completely INSANE if they haven't and/or don't fully dedicated themselves to greenlighting this project. This was simply brilliant and as a life long Deadpool fan and live action skeptic, I hope this goes ahead! Needless to say my gut instinct says this was purposely leaked to garner public interest and see how the fans felt about the direction they wanted to take this in. It's just way too convenient with the timing IMO... "There's no easy way to say this....I'm pregnant Trevor!"

Completely agree with this. Although,, if Fox went the safe route and CGIed the movie I would only be a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong; I want a live action movie. But, if the writing is this good and the action is on point and they don't try and soften is to a PG-13 I'll still be very happy.
