Sam Rockwell Reuniting with 'The Way Way Back' Team for 'The Eel'
After making a splash at Sundance with the comedy The Way Way Back last year, Deadline reports Nat Faxon and Jim Rash are slated to reunite with supporting actor Sam Rockwell on a new project called The Eel. However, this time Faxon and Rash will only be producing by way of a new production banner with no name. Directing the film will be Roberto Bentivegna, working from a script he wrote himself that made the Blacklist back in 2012. In the film, Rockwell will play an escaped convict caught up in a plot by a corrupt sheriff to kidnap the young heiress to an oil fortune, creating problems for his newfound freedom.
Coincidentally enough, Rockwell is back at Sundance again this year for Lynn Shelton's new film Laggies, in which he co-stars with Chloe Moretz and Keira Knightley. Whenever Rockwell stars in a film on the festival circuit, it immediately becomes a must-see for a lot of independent film fans. As for Bentivegna, he's just starting his career after winning the Alfred P. Sloan screenwriting award at Columbia University, and co-writing a film called Spirit House with Chase Palmer for FilmNation. As for The Eel, the plan is to shoot this fall and Bentivegna is currently at Sundance to meet with financiers for the new project. There's a good chance it could end up at Sundance in 2015, so stay tuned for anymore updates.
I really loved THE WAY WAY BACK. Rockwell is golden.
