Scott Adkins & Tony Jaa Confirmed for Cast of 'Kickboxer' Remake

Another day, another remake. But this doesn't sound so bad after all… Or maybe I'm going crazy. News has arrived via the Brian O'Shea, the CEO of The Exchange, the company producing the remake of Kickboxer, that the cast has been confirmed and it includes some big names. The last we wrote about this Kickboxer remake, it was announced that WWE star Dave Bautista (who is in Guardians of the Galaxy) and UFC champion Georges St. Pierre would appear in the film. But now we can add a few more names: Tony Jaa (of Ong Bak, The Protector, Fast & Furious 7) and Scott Adkins (The Bourne Ultimatum, Zero Dark Thirty).
Commenting on the casting news, The Exchange CEO Brian O'Shea says: "Kickboxer will display a style of acrobatic, rapid-fire martial arts action that Scott Adkins is increasingly becoming synonymous with. Along with Tony Jaa, Kickboxer has compiled a talented cast to push the boundaries of the martial arts form." Those are bold claims, especially with The Raid 2 out this year. The story in the remake once again follows Kurt Sloan (Alain Moussi, a stuntman making his debut), a talented martial artist who travels to Thailand where he must learn the secrets of the kickboxer to avenge his brother's death at the hands of Tong Po (Bautista). It's being directed by Stephen Fung (of Enter the Phoenix, House of Fury, Tai Chi Zero/Hero). The original film starred Jean-Claude Van Damme and was first released 25 years ago in September 1989.
This updated take is being is produced by Ted Field of Radar Films (Riddick, The Last Samurai), Dimitri Logothetis and Nick Celozzi. Mike Weber and Peter Meyer will executive produce. Honestly, I'm not too keen on this remake at all, but with a cast like this, I have to admit I won't brush it off entirely. And I have a feeling audiences won't either. Meaning this has a chance to actually end up in theaters and not straight-to-DVD. Would would've thought 25 years after the original Kickboxer came out we'd be seeing a remake with Tony Jaa and Dave Bautista? Crazy. We'll keep an eye on things as filming gets underway. Any hope?

This movie will be amazing if The Raid star Iko Uwais or Yayan Ruhian (mad dog) play in this film.

They should've had Scott Adkins playing Kurt... I'm sure he has a better stage presence than Moussi... OR he needs to play Boyka entering the tournament!
