Shannyn Sossamon to Lead 'Sinister 2,' James Ransone Returns Too
by Ethan Anderton
August 13, 2014
This past spring, Citadel director Ciaron Foy stepped up to direct Sinister 2, the sequel to the 2012 horror film from director Scott Derrickson (who is moving into Marvel territory next). Now the film has begun production in Chicago according to a press release from Focus Features, who has dated the film for release on August 21st, 2015. In addition, some of the cast has finally been revealed with Shannyn Sossamon (A Knight's Tale) leading the film as a protective mother with twin sons (Robert & Dartanian Sloan) who find themselves in a rural house marked for death. But there's one character from the first film returning.
James Ransone, who portrayed the concerned sheriff’s deputy in Sinister, will reprise his role in the sequel, which implies that the supernatural terror hasn't moved far away from the grisly activity of the first film. This is just one of many horror franchises from Blumhouse Production which also has Insidious, Paranormal Activity and The Conjuring (plus the spin-off Annabelle) under their belt. Derrickson is back as a producer and he also wrote the script with returning writer C. Robert Cargill, so this should hopefully pack the same twisted punch as the first film. Sound good?

I was surprised to like this movie a lot. That year seemed a bit clogged with horror movies that were similar, but Sinister was my favourite I think. Credit to Cargill especially for that, I think.

I too was really surprised by how scared I was during the whole movie. They really had the pacing down pat.

I bet Ransone will die in the first scene. Got to tie up those loose ends man.
