Simon Pegg Rumored to Have Small Role in 'Star Wars: Episode VII'

With the bulk of the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII already announced, and the addition of Lupita Nyong's and Gwendoline Christie beefing up the female presence recently, there's probably not many integral roles in the film left to be revealed. However, IGN Middle East (via Bleeding Cool) has word that Shaun of the Dead and Star Trek star Simon Pegg has a small role in the sci-fi sequel. But it doesn't sound like it's very extensive, because Pegg has apparently already completed shooting what will likely amount to a cameo on the set of the film in Abu Dhabi, which has since completed as production has moved to London.
Pegg has been a staple of the films of J.J. Abrams playing Scotty in the Star Trek reboot franchise, and also had a supporting role in Mission: Impossible III and an expanded role in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, so some small involvement would make sense. However, when Pegg spoke to The Independent last year, he didn't seem keen on having any role saying, "I don't think it would be appropriate for me to be in it, to be honest. I think J.J. should cast new faces with no stunt casting. I wouldn't want to be popped out of the film by a knowing cameo. I think it would be great to do it properly."
The British actor is one of those fans who felt betrayed by the prequels, so he wasn't exactly keen on where Star Wars had gone after the original trilogy was such a big part of his childhood. But maybe Pegg's words give us a hint as to the kind of cameo he'll have. Perhaps Pegg will be indistinguishable in the film covered by make-up, changing his voice, appearing as some sort of alien in a cantina or a market. We won't find out until the end of 2015 when Star Wars: Episode VII hits theaters, but we can only imagine how cool it would be to have even a small cameo in the film. Stay tuned for more.

I would love to be an extra in a cantina scene, no CG, just old school prosthetics.

Pegg is great in any film. It is cool he is now in both of the biggest sci-fi reboots of the century.

I was hoping this would happen. I'd be happy for him because I assume Simon Pegg is really just exactly like Tim from Spaced. Also, then we have a character in a Star Wars film that slagged off the prequels somewhere else. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4TX6x2WLgk
