Following the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, we rounded up a list of all the films that had been picked up for distribution after premiering at the festival. Now three more films have been acquired, likely for release later this year. THR reports Sony Pictures Classics has acquire Infinitely Polar Bear starring Mark Ruffalo while Gravitas Ventures and Millennium Entertainment have picked up the 80s love letter Ping Pong Summer. And finally, The Wrap reports Well Go USA, which picked up Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead, has landed themselves another bloody horror film with the intense, violent Japanese flick Killers.
Here's the brief Sundance synopses of all three films from the festival:
Infinitely Polar Bear (Director & Screenwriter: Maya Forbes) — A manic-depressive mess of a father tries to win back his wife by attempting to take full responsibility of their two young, spirited daughters, who don't make the overwhelming task any easier. Cast: Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana, Imogene Wolodarsky, Ashley Aufderheide.
Ping Pong Summer (Director & Screenwriter: Michael Tully) — 1985. Ocean City, Maryland. Summer vacation. Rap music. Parachute pants. Ping pong. First crushes. Best friends. Mean bullies. Weird mentors. That awkward, momentous time in your life when you're treated like an alien by everyone around you, even though you know deep down you're as funky fresh as it gets. Cast: Susan Sarandon, John Hannah, Lea Thompson, Amy Sedaris, Robert Longstreet, Marcello Conte. (Read our review right here).
Killers (Directors: The Mo Brothers, Screenwriters: Timo Tjahjanto, Takuji Ushiyama) — Two serial killers post their violent crimes online in a psychotic battle for notoriety. It soon becomes clear that they will square off with one another face to face. Cast: Kazuki Kitamura, Oka Antara, Rin Takanashi, Luna Maya, Ray Sahetapy.
There's no release window for Infinitely Polar Bear, but a release later this year would put a deserving performance by Mark Ruffalo into awards contention. Otherwise, Ping Pong Summer is estimated to hit sometime early this summer (how appropriate) and Killers will arrive sometime in the fourth quarter of 2014. There's likely plenty more films that will get picked up as time goes on, especially after some play at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March, so stay tuned to see which indies will hit a theater near you.
Not related to this, but when will you post the "Best Movies You Didn't See in 2013"?. Thank you.
