Briefly: Initially, Paramount Pictures was planning to give Rupert Wyatt's remake of The Gambler starring Mark Wahlberg a limited release on December 19th to qualify for awards season with a wider release to follow sometime theater. But now Deadline reports the studio will release on Christmas Day instead, and they'll actually give the film a wide release on that day now. The film joins a crowded holiday calendar that week with wide releases like Disney's musical Into the Woods, Universal's period drama Unbroken and Sony's comedy The Interview, not to mention limited releases like Tim Burton's Big Eyes, Clint Eastwood's American Sniper and civil rights drama Selma. Great. I don't really mind. It should be a supreme performance from Wahlberg.

Award season? That's awfully optimistic, the trailer looked pretty bad to me...
