'Tron Legacy' Helmer Directed This Live-Action 'Destiny' Commercial
by Ethan Anderton
September 4, 2014
After making a sleek but somewhat narratively clunky directorial debut with Tron Legacy, director Joseph Kosinski followed it up with Oblivion, a superior film that shows he has vision, but maybe not a lot of originality in the storytelling department. Well, now Kosinski has gotten back behind the camera to direct an awesome live-action commercial for the forthcoming next generation video game Destiny. Complete with the help of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song," this is a pretty badass commercial for the video game, with flares of Oblivion and the Halo game franchise (the game has the same creators) in its visuals. Watch!
Here's the live-action commercial for the video game Destiny, from the game's YouTube page:
From the creators of Halo and the company that brought you Call of Duty, Destiny is a next generation first person shooter, with rich cinematic storytelling set in huge worlds to explore. Personalize and upgrade your Guardian with a nearly limitless combination of armor, weapons, and visual customizations. Become Legend in intense cooperative, competitive, and innovative public gameplay modes that are all seamlessly woven into an expansive, persistent online world. Venture out alone or join up with friends. The choice is yours. The video game launches worldwide next week on PS4 and Xbox One September 9th. Pretty cool, yes?

Very cool. These live actions trailers are so well done. But I think it is their scale that makes them so good. I, for one, don't think they would do nearly as well as feature length films.

Too bad the game doesn't look at all like this when you're in its first person-only combat/play mode. You can't even see what your character looks like.

Love the cinematography, hate the tone (dialogue, music, etc). Goes to show that the story aspect of Destiny is very lacking. And Dinklage delivers such a mediocre performance. Oh well, Kosinski did a damn fine job with what he had.

I'm late to this discussion, but this is still dope as hell.
