Uh-Oh: Weinsteins Drop 'Passengers' & Lose Co-Star Rachel McAdams

Well, here's some severely bad news for what seemed to be a promising sci-fi romance. Passengers was slated to begin production in Germany next month with Keanu Reeves playing a man who mistakenly awakens from his cryogenic sleep 90 years before anyone else during a centuries-long interstellar voyage to a new planet. Faced with the prospect of growing old and dying alone, he in turn, awakens another beautiful woman to spend time with, and that love interest was supposed to be played by Rachel McAdams. But THR reports The Weinstein Company has dropped the film and The Notebook star is no longer on board.
The film was slated to hit theaters on April 3rd, 2015, but now that The Weinstein Company isn't distributing the project due to a production delay that has "Game of Thrones" director Brian Kirk waiting another few weeks to begin shooting the script from Prometheus writer Jon Spaihts. It was that, combined with the loss of McAdams (for no clear reason), that caused the Weinsteins to drop the project. Previously, Reese Witherspoon was attached to the project, but she too fell away. Now the project needs a new lead actress and distributor, and we hope the film can fix all these problems and finally get in front of a camera.

Hmmm I like this premise a lot. Had an idea for a movie like this years ago but never wrote it all out.
