Viggo Mortensen Rumored for Role in Tarantino's 'The Hateful Eight'

Viggo Mortensen

Now this sounds like a pretty flimsy rumor, but the prospect is so enticing, that we just couldn't help but bring it to light. The official cast for Quentin Tarantino's latest western The Hateful Eight hasn't been announced yet, and production is supposed to begin early next year. Kurt Russell seems like a lock since he knew the estimated production start before the official news surfaced from The Weinstein Company, and there have been rumblings of Jennifer Lawrence maybe taking a part. Now the latest rumor from The New York Daily News says Viggo Mortensen has been talking with Tarantino about a juicy role. More below!

Now here's where things get flimsy because the source for this news is a guest who happened to be at the Greenwich Hotel where Mortensen and Tarantino were talking about the film, complete with the script in-hand and part of the discussion. Now this could just as easily be bullshit, but the thought of Mortensen taking a role described as "a ruthless gang leader" in a Quentin Tarantino movie is just mouth-watering. Here's hoping we get word on the official cast soon. There's a good chance we know most of the cast since the actors and actresses who were part of the live-read of the script earlier this year were meant to be in the film as well, but maybe some bigger names are being lined up. Thoughts?

VIGGO NEEDS A STRONG COMEBACK. This sounds like a perfect match for Mortensen and Tarantino.
