Be careful what you wish for! Finally! Disney has debuted the first teaser trailer for Rob Marshall's new musical Into the Woods, based on the Broadway show of the same name about all of the various Disney fairytales being twisted into on big, dark musical story. Meryl Streep stars as "The Witch", but this teaser is all about introducing the rest of the cast: Emily Blunt, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Tracey Ullman, Christine Baranski, and Johnny Depp, who they tease but don't really show. They're building this up to be quite the spectacle come Christmas-time, but for now we get a quick tease (without any singing featured as of yet) of the world and characters we'll be spending time with. How does it look?
Watch the first teaser trailer for Rob Marshall's Into the Woods, in high def from Apple:
Into the Woods is directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Nine, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) based on the hit Broadway musical by Stephen Sondheim & James Lapine that mashes-up classic fairy tales and revolves around a baker and his wife, to be played by James Corden and Emily Blunt. They attempt to lift a family curse by journeying into the woods to confront The Witch (Meryl Streep) who put the spell on them. Along their journey they meet classic characters including Rapunzel (Mackenzie Mauzy), Cinderella (Anna Kendrick) and her Prince (Chris Pine), Jack (Daniel Huttlestone) and Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford) with Johnny Depp as the Big Bad Wolf. Disney sends the film to theaters on December 25th.

Wow. I did not expect that. From all of the images recently I thought this looked pretty cheap, but that teaser just convinced me otherwise. I love what i'm seeing so far!

Meh - doesn't do anything for me either way. I'll likely see it at some point in the theater, due to the cast. But gotta hear some singing first. Meryl, Johnny & Anna are set... the others... no idea.

Visually it looks quite promising. Though if Johnny is using his breathy "singing" voice then the song Hello Little Girl will be extra creepy. In truth, none of these actors are Sondheim style singers. That's what killed Sweeney for me too.

Being able to see a full trailer for this movie may change my mind about this movie, considering that since I've just seen this trailer and not too much is shown in it.

I'll put my stock in Rob Marshall's pedigree. Anna Kendrick is also always welcome.

It's kind of silly to release a trailer for a musical without, you know, some actual singing...

It has Meryl Streep. What else do you need to know?(other than the fact that she'll probably win best actress)
