Watch: First Trailer for HBO's 'Banksy Does New York' Documentary
We first wrote about this documentary a few months ago, originally posting a video of Banksy showcasing his own work, not actually a trailer. HBO has, finally, launched a trailer for the documentary Banksy Does New York that they're airing in November. It'll actually be available starting this Friday via the HBO GO app, so if this captures your attention there isn't too long of a wait to see it. The trailer shows a doc that seems to be indeed based on "user-generated footage", with pop up tweets and videos, but there's not much to it. I honestly was expecting to see more, especially with Banksy putting together a three minute trailer. Maybe more will come, then again I want to watch this doc right now anyway. More on Banksy's NY show.
Here's the official trailer for Chris Moukarbel's doc Banksy Does New York, direct from YouTube:
From director Chris Moukarbel (of HBO's Me @ The Zoo, Sex/Now) comes Banksy Does New York, a wildly entertaining documentary about renowned street artist Banksy and his self-proclaimed citywide residency in New York during October 2013. "From the moment Banksy took over the streets, New Yorkers became obsessed. The film captures this month of madness created by user-generated footage," explains HBO Documentary Films president Sheila Nevins. The doc is directed by New York local Chris Moukarbel, who put this together from all publicly content. "I crowd-sourced footage that New Yorkers posted online each day of the month. It was about a city holding a mirror back up to the artist." The documentary will air on HBO November 17th and debut on HBO GO starting October 31st, so make sure you got HBO dangit.

Banksy is such a strange character. Kind of like a modern super hero, who doesn't fight crime.

Note that there is also a beautiful book on Banksy's NY residency available which chronicles Banksy's daily stunts. "Banksy in New York" features contributions from many of the same experts and fans featured in the HBO documentary, but is written from more of an insider perspective, using a mix of humor and information to critically examine Banksy's work as it popped up across the city.
