Watch: 'Godzilla' IMAX Screening Countdown and Score Featurette

May 14, 2014

Starting tomorrow evening, Gareth Edwards' new take on the classic movie monster Godzilla will rip into theaters (read our review here). The film wasn't shot on IMAX cameras, but the sound alone might be worth the extra money to see it on the giant screen (we've heard the 3D conversion is actually pretty damn good too). And if you've ever been to an IMAX film, you know there's a cool countdown before the movie starts, and this weekend it will be shaken up a bit by the King of Monsters. In addition, a new featurette has surfaced with Alexandre Desplat talking about how he created the masterful score. Watch both below!

Here's the featurette for Alexandre Desplat's score from Godzilla (via Rolling Stone):

And here's the Godzilla themed countdown that will play before IMAX screenings of the film:

Godzilla, being directed by Gareth Edwards (of Monsters), comes from a screenplay written by Drew Pearce, Max Borenstein and Frank Darabont. The cast is lead by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, with Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe and Juliette Binoche. An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence. Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures are sending Godzilla stomping into theaters May 16th this summer. Viral site: MUTOresearch.net.

It's been awhile since I've seen a movie in IMAX (maybe Avengers?), so I forget....do they play movie trailers before the movie? And if so, do they play less of them than in a normal theater?

JBrotsis on May 14, 2014

They do play trailers....I can't remember if they play less though.

Danimal on May 14, 2014

They do play trailers and I think it's about the same amount if I remember correctly. Like about 15 minutes worth of trailers.

I'm pretty certain they play less trailers in IMAX. They only play trailers for movies that are going to be shown in IMAX hence there are less trailers. I'm not sure what the big deal with the countdown is. They always play that countdown in front of IMAX movies. The only thing they added was Godzilla's roar at the end...

A few co-workers and I are going to see it during lunch on Friday in IMAX. I'm kinda bummed though because it's at one of those smaller IMAX theaters. For some reason, the Cineplex that has a full sized IMAX theater here in Toronto isn't showing the film at all. I don't get it?

I wish I could see this in IMAX. So epic.

They both seem like nice guys but this just looks and sounds disposable...

What kind of review is this?!? You don't even talk about the movie in 3 D - it's as if you never saw it in 3D but you THINK it'll be a good idea! Sheesh! *Rolls eyes*!
