We've already featured a couple of roundtable discussions from THR and LA Times featuring some of the award worthy directors of films from 2013. But it's the annual Meet the Nominees: Feature Film Symposium from the Directors Guild of America that takes the cake with a 2 hour and 20 minute chat with directors Paul Greengrass (Captain Phillips), Steve McQueen (12 Years A Slave), David O. Russell (American Hustle), and Martin Scorsese (The Wolf of Wall Street). Unfortunately, Alfonso Cuarón, who ended up winning the DGA award, wasn't on hand for the extended discussion. Watch below.
Here's the Meet the Nominees: Feature Film Symposium from the Directors Guild of America:
After screening clips, each director talked about how they do what they did, beginning with how they begin the first day on set. The whole chat is fascinating. DGA President Paris Barclay says, "This symposium is one of our most popular events of the year – a rare and exceptional opportunity to enjoy the company of our outstanding feature film director nominees as they share the inside stories of their individual journeys in bringing their nominated films to life. I’ve been coming for twenty years and taking notes – nuggets I want to remember, great quotes to use on set. It’s been my post-graduate education in direction.” Good stuff?

I love these talks. They really let you peek into the minds of much more creative men.
