The Gunman

"It's the ones who aren't after you who do you in, in the end." It's been about a year and a half since we got a first look at Sean Penn in Pierre Morel's action thriller The Gunman, and for some reason the film has taken a long time to hit the big screen. But it's finally arriving next spring, and the first trailer has arrived, showcasing an impressive cast that also includes Javier Bardem, Idris Elba and more. In the film, Penn plays a Special Forces soldier who ends up getting targeted by his own colleagues. Basically, it's Sean Penn's turn to be an aging bad ass, and it seems to pack the same punch as the first Taken movie too.

Here's the first trailer for Pierre Morel's The Gunman, originally from Yahoo:

The Gunman is directed by Pierre Morel (Taken, From Paris with Love, District B13) and written by Don MacPherson (of 1998's spy adventure The Avengers), based on Jean-Patrick Manchette's The Prone Gunman novel. Sean Penn stars  in the film as Martin Terrier, a former Special Forces soldier and military contractor who works peacefully for a non-government organization in the Congo. But Terrier gets drawn back into his violent past. The cast includes Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone and British stage actor Mark Rylance, and Open Road Films is set to release the film in theaters next spring March 20th, 2015.

Terrible trailer. Penn's been miscast.

They couldn't cast Liam Neeson again!

I agree. Also, it just looks like the old 'same ole, same ole' to me! I was surprised that several times during the trailer I just didn't believe Penn's line readings...and that is unusual. But then there's Ray Winstone! Is it worth it to sit thru the whole thing just for him? Could be because he's the best...always!

Morel knows how to direct action. This trailer is much more intriguing than that CG-and-wire-fest "The Kingsman".
