Fortress Short Film

Whoa. This is awesome. You have to watch this! That's the reaction I had, and I expect most people will have, after watching this. It's a short film titled Fortress, or Крепость in Russian, made by a guy named Dima Fedotof who posted this to his own Vimeo a year ago. Yes it's a bit old, but it's still worth seeing because, as our friend Jonnie tweeted about it: "love that it has minimal setup, and that it's actually short." Dima explains that the short is just a "cartoon parable" and he's only a "CG enthusiast from Russia", but it's impressive work. The setting is in the far future, where wars have been raging for so long that the robots continue to fight each other even though all humanity is gone. Just another cool short to enjoy - take a look.

Director Dima Fedotof explains the project Крепость/Fortress in full - from Vimeo: "Hello! My name is Dima, I am CG enthusiast from Russia. This is cartoon parable. Despite the fact that mankind is killed, the war still continues. War continued with automated system left by people. One of the last surviving bomber and its pilot still performs its task. The city is dead for a long time. Dead people who built it. Dead people who gave the order to destroy the city. And war will continue until subside echo of humanity. But life will always find a way to survive. Cassette bomb submunitions became a fortress for the grass." Thanks to io9 via @jonniechang for the tip. Not sure about awesome, nothing we haven't see before, but cool nonetheless

If you ever see anything that you think is something we "haven't seen before", please send me an email with a link to the video. Would love to check it out.

I see things we haven't seen before - all the time - and i can't un- see them

You can't share them? Why... not? Great art can only spread through sharing! Sharing your opinion, sharing your feelings, sharing your favorites with others. That's how this works! I am always searching, and anything that stands out is worth sharing, even if it is old or has been seen before.

Oh i didnt know you were talking about art -

shane willett on Oct 14, 2014

Are short films not art? Is cinema not art? 🙂

There's a great sci fi short called "Two Point Five Billion". It's an old one, but damn good. I still think about it often https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ud6HmwHRsXs

One of the reasons I visit this site is exactly because you provide links to such videos. In this particular case, you seem to have invited our opinion, which is exactly what I provide, and I thought I did exactly that in a respectful way.. unlike some of the other more "colorful" visitors. If this was interpreted differently, then my apologies. Also, if I misread your response, then disregard this response altogether and party on.

Zing! Better work than most shorts that end up in my inbox recently.

Hey Alex, cheers for posting these, lately I've been checking the Collective Podcast, it's decent for lengthy interviews with concept artists, title sequence directors and animators with lots of vfx chat too, it's led me to some incredible art and film. Actually reckon most of the regulars on here would probably like some aspects of the conversation. Here's the link: http://www.thecollectivepodcast.com

okay..... the story was ?????????

shane willett on Oct 14, 2014

Looked cool - felt like Killzone - video game - art style is completely taken from that universe -

shane willett on Oct 14, 2014

I was hoping for Nightwatch level there. Reckon the concept art for this world be good, I liked the suits.

Carpola on Oct 14, 2014

Woah. This was very cool. Russia does some cool stuff.

DAVIDPD on Oct 14, 2014

Looks cool. But one common thing I find with all these CGI/sci-fi shorts is they lack 'story.'
