Will Forte Provides Update on the Progress of Writing 'MacGruber 2'

Fans of the comedy MacGruber have been jerked around a bit when it comes to the potential of a sequel. Writer and director Jorma Taccone said that he was developing the script for MacGruber 2 with star Will Forte, but then the latter dashed those dreams and said that it was far from being a real project. However, sometime later, Forte changed his tune completely and said they would do whatever it takes to get it made. And since the "Saturday Night Live" veteran has been busy doing press for his turn in Life of Crime, that means it's time to get an update on the hero making life-saving devices out of household materials.

Asked if inquiries about a MacGruber ever get tiring, Forte told Collider, "No, it is very exciting because it means that people liked the first MacGruber.  Unless they are saying, 'Are you serious about MacGruber?'" And then the comedy star offered a brief but hopeful update saying, "Jorma just sent an outline for MacGruber 2. We had worked together on something and I had fleshed out the first act of MacGruber 2. He took that and went nuts on the rest of it. I’m very excited because I feel like at some point, if somebody will let us do it, then we’ll do it. But it’s out of our hands. But we’re writing it for sure."

That's a little less optimistic than his last words on the sequel, but obviously, they need to have the means to put the project before cameras in order to make it happen. Nowadays, the best route would be something like Kickstarter, and Forte even previously noted, ""Jorma, the MacGruber director, he had the idea to do a Kickstarter like two years ago. He kept saying ‘We should do a Kickstarter’ and we were like ‘Yeah, maybe at some point.’ He’s always ahead of the curve." Hopefully there's enough fans to get any potential Kickstarter off the ground and make this sequel a reality when the script is done. KFBR392.
