Now that it's safe to say Zach Galifianakis is done with The Hangover franchise, we're glad to hear he's getting back on the big screen in a lower profile project. THR has word that Galifianakis will have a supporting role in Freeland, a new indie drama based on an Oscar-winning documentary short of the same name about the late Laurel Hester a New Jersey police detective whose world was shattered when she became terminally ill and government officials prevented her from assigning her pension benefits to her domestic partner, Stacie Andree. Sounds like a powerful and timely drama So who's playing the two leads?
Well, Julianne Moore will play Laurel Hester and Ellen Page will play her partner Stacie Andree. Meanwhile Galifianakis is playing Garden State Equality activist Steven Goldstein, and there's another important role yet to be cast, Laurel's conservative detective partner Dane Wells, who was shocked when he learned of her domestic partnership with another woman, but became the leader in the fight for the same-sex couple's rights. Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist director Peter Sollett will be at the helm with a script from Ron Nyswaner (Philadelphia). We could see this one pop up at Sundance next year. Cool?
