Zack Snyder Reveals Batmobile and Ben Affleck as the New Batman

Batman vs. Superman

Following yesterday's tease of the new Batmobile for Batman vs. Superman, we understood that today would bring a full reveal of Bruce Wayne's signature Dark Knight vehicle. However, director Zack Snyder decided to sneak attack us with not only a better look at the Batmobile, but with the first image of Ben Affleck suited up as The Caped Crusader. It's a suit design that we haven't seen on the big screen before, and Affleck certainly looks pretty bulky in it. Is that all his own muscle or is that just the suit adding that definition? Anyway, Snyder shot this on set with his Leica M Monochrom camera. See the first look photo!

Here's the first look at Ben Affleck as Batman in Zack Snyder's Batman vs. Superman from Twitter:

Batman vs. Superman

Batman vs. Superman is directed by Zack Snyder (Man of Steel, 300) and written by Chris Terrio (Argo) with a story from David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight trilogy). Production is beginning soon in Detroit, Michigan and the sequel will be shot back-to-back with Justice League. Henry Cavill is returning as Superman along with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane from Man of Steel and Jesse Eisenberg playing iconic villain Lex Luthor. In addition, Ben Affleck is joining the film as the new Batman, along with Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Warner Bros. releases the film on May 6th, 2016. Stay tuned.

Looks great. So looking forward to this.

Isildur_of_Numenor on May 13, 2014

It has the vibe of Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns all over it. I don't like Afflec in the role. Sorry.

capitandelespacio on May 13, 2014

Should have gotten Tracy Morgan or Tim Allen, possible short guy from Game of Thrones, anyone would be better. If Matt Damon enters the project I would get a tattoo that says " I whooped Batmans Ass"

shane willett on May 13, 2014

It's just me, I only see Afflec wearing a Batman suit, I can't see the Batman there. And he looks like his sad, or miserable, not angry in particular. Maybe Jason just stoled the Batmobile's wheel and he'sl looking at it.

capitandelespacio on May 13, 2014

I agree, Kellan Lutz would have been a better Batman. His role as Hercules in that movie this year was beyond incredible.

Cocaino Weaver on May 13, 2014

Dude, STFU! You think Kellan Lutz would be great as everybody. First Wolverine, now Batman, who's next, The Noid? Get off the guys nuts already!

Rock n Rollllll on May 13, 2014

LOL! Don't take Weaver seriously. He is a friendly troll.

DAVIDPD on May 13, 2014

Looks so different than the past film-batmans, in a fresh way. If that is mostly Afflec, I would like to know what it is that they have been feeding to him

ProjectionistHP on May 13, 2014

My thoughts about the suit exactly. Nubby ears, extra large symbol, has the Dark Knight returns all over it.

R3last on May 13, 2014

Gshift on May 13, 2014

He's matured a lot in the past decade. Give the guy a chance before you judge his future onscreen embodiment of Bats.

Rock n Rollllll on May 13, 2014

Holy shit that Batman looks like he's goingto deliver serious mauling...

ProjectionistHP on May 13, 2014

I want to see Marvel vs DC film cross over... or better yet, Grey Anatomy crossed with hit tv series M.A.S.H crossed with Charles In Charge Crossed with Flash

shane willett on May 13, 2014

Was hoping for a full reveal not another tease image. Suit looks Meh to the max

Brian Sleider on May 13, 2014

The suit is missing some bat nips on it.

Cocaino Weaver on May 13, 2014

What?! No bat nipples! Damnit! What kind of suit is that?

backwardsprogress on May 13, 2014

They should have just gone with the original batman ADAM WEST 😀

redskulllives on May 13, 2014

Bane wouldn't even have to break his back.

Cocaino Weaver on May 13, 2014

redskulllives on Sep 8, 2014

And I thought this was gonna be a Superman sequel....silly me.

Cocaino Weaver on May 13, 2014

We know what superman looks like already.

Jon Odishaw on May 13, 2014

Uh Superman has a new costume in the movie, hello?

Cocaino Weaver on May 13, 2014

HOLY CRAP! I just noticed a major Easter Egg in the photo! If you look at the bottom left of the photo at the end behind Batfleck you will see a clown or scarecrow face! It has eyes, mouth, and a hat! OMG!

Cocaino Weaver on May 13, 2014

That's the rims budy. lol

toddimus144 on May 13, 2014

Wow I must really be trippin, I swear it coulda looked like face.

Cocaino Weaver on May 13, 2014

The Joker on May 14, 2014

Can he turn his head in that or are we taking a step back ?

Steven on May 13, 2014

I dig this look soooo much better. Although i understand Bruce Wayne is constantly upgrading his suit, I didnt like the modification upgrades between Nolan's 2 and 3 too much. Batman Begins was IMO the best batsuit.

Rock n Rollllll on May 13, 2014

I understand where you coming from, it's just that I felt the ability to move his head added to the realistic approach to the character.

Steven on May 13, 2014

Indeed it does. Get what you're saying. As long as his movement doesnt look like Robocop, then im good.

Rock n Rollllll on May 13, 2014

Definitely not real muscles...

oct8pus on May 13, 2014

Its not fucking spandex! Its an armored suit. You think Bales suit was painted on? The suit is always physically defined, its their body mass that fills the suit. And besides, Ben is in great shape as well.

Rock n Rollllll on May 13, 2014

Enough fucking complaining. I believe Affleck is going to pull it off and doubters are sweating after seeing this badassary.

Jon Odishaw on May 13, 2014

Once again, you and I are on the same page!

Rock n Rollllll on May 13, 2014

Frank Miller's Dark Knight is my favorite Batman. Dark. Brooding. And Bat Shit crazy. Its a very realistic look at what Bruce's life has done to him mentally. Plus it shows us why he-holy shit i made a bat joke earlier and just noticed it-continues to be batman. Ben Affleck looks great. I could care less if its padding or not. He looks like the Bad Ass Batman. Like he's supposed to. If he can turn his head in that thing then they did what i thought they should have done with the first cowl.

Josef Saltpeppaketchup Woods on May 13, 2014

Still not sure what to think about it, but I do welcome this more brutal looking batman.

Zade_92 on May 13, 2014

Oooh I like it.

Xerxexx on May 13, 2014

He looks a bit swollen.

CoosCoos on May 13, 2014

I think this is looking good so far but I'm not really worried about the look. Snyder has look and feel down pat in his movies. It's the plot and script I'm worried about. Did you see Man of Steel!?! You could fit a speeding locomotive through all of the plot gaps. Goyer, I'm talking to you buddy. Tighten it up. Have other quality writers (better than last time then) proof read before shooting begins… please.

Ahsoka Cole on May 13, 2014

Chris Terrio(who wrote Argo) is working on the script. I don't know if he is writing it based on Goyer's story, revising Goyer's first draft, or is full-on co-writing with Goyer...but Terrio is definitely involved and that could definitely be a good thing.

Chris Groves on May 13, 2014

I agree.

Rock n Rollllll on May 13, 2014

I gotta say, I'm certainly digging the batsuit having both a retro and a modern feel! I'm stoked! The batmobile looks great too!

Rock n Rollllll on May 13, 2014

I am thoroughly unimpressed to be completely honest. I expected more of a reveal. But I guess it doesn't really matter cuz I'm not planning is seeing it anyway.

Six Three on May 13, 2014

But still care enough to comment right? Get outta here

Rock n Rollllll on May 13, 2014

lmfao! seriously

Timothy Rueda on May 13, 2014

oh dear, ive seen fields with less bullshit in them

Coulson, how was Elvis? on May 13, 2014

This is the big batmobile reveal he was teasing?! lol - well... ok... great, or something, I guess.

avconsumer2 on May 13, 2014

I think it looks awesome. Worth noting this is a black and white photo, I'm interested in seeing what the color scheme is. Black and Grey? Blue and Grey? But naturally, as with every Snyder film, the design is all sorts of 'cool'

Chris Groves on May 13, 2014

I think Affleck said at one point it was black and grey. But blue and grey? I'm tempted to say that sounds even cooler.

Isildur_of_Numenor on May 13, 2014

Either one would work for me, honestly. Maybe there will be variants, and at one point, to combat Supes, he'll have a specially made, enhanced suit that he uses.

Chris Groves on May 14, 2014

I had no doubts about this looking great. It's a Zack Snyder film. He's a visual genius. If you haven't caught up with that at this point, what have you been doing?

DavideCoppola on May 13, 2014

Ben Affleck might be my dad. I'm not sure.

Brian Ricci on May 13, 2014

More like an image of Affleck in the suit. But with him standing in front of the vehicle and there being fog/mist/whatever towards the rear of the vehicle, it's kinda hard to get a full viewing of the new batmobile.

JBrotsis on May 13, 2014

So far I like this but its still early days. It will be interesting to see how this will develop over time, the suits, the “look” of the film etc.

Ed Blount on May 13, 2014

Looks impressive and hope for the best; The Batman and Superman on screen for the first time on IMAX better be epic, and I plan on waiting to see that on screen and not by watching any previews.

mooreworthy on May 13, 2014

Yup, that's me. Looking all dapper and a little depressed.

I'm Batman on May 13, 2014

Look at the big HD picture! The suit has veins and shit all over it!!!~ So badass, I am happy they really went for something of an amalgamation of the previous Batman suits. The new Batmobile looks great too. I can't wait to see the top split open and Bats jump in~! // Also, no one has mentioned this, but what's going on with that ghost face thing on the left of Batman? It's freaking me out.

DAVIDPD on May 13, 2014

I think that's just some piece of the car covering the back tire.

I'm Batman on May 13, 2014

Can someone link high quality photo?

Chiroptera Exsanguination on May 13, 2014

As per your request.

DAVIDPD on May 13, 2014

Here you go. And thosw veins are not in the costume. Thats actual muscle.

Josef Saltpeppaketchup Woods on May 14, 2014

Those veins are costume; however Ben is still in really great shape.

Rock n Rollllll on May 14, 2014

Is this Matt Damon??

Angry Lonnie on May 14, 2014

Almost looks like maybe it could be an allusion to a new take on The Joker?

TitoG on May 13, 2014

I saw that image at first when I looked at the picture on my phone, but once I got to a computer and looked at it on the Imgur link Snyder put up I could see that it's just part of the batmobile. No joker or ghostly figures.

Blake on May 14, 2014

I know, the thing covering the wheel? I'm sure its just a part of the car, but it looks like some mask or something (almost like Casey from Ninja Turtles). Are the Ninja Turtles getting mixed into this cluster?

I'm Batman on May 13, 2014

Certainly encouraging first look at The Batman.

Quanah on May 13, 2014

Looks awesome. But there was never any doubt in my mind that it was gonna LOOK awesome. I'm more worried about the story. Hopefully, Chris Terrio is giving us a really awesome, simple, Batman/Superman movie. No need for all that bullshit we had to squint through in Man of Steel. And hopefully Superman cracks a smile like once or twice.

Buttass on May 13, 2014

Enough Man of Steel bashing! For crying out loud, probably one of the best movies ever made, especially for a super hero movie and all you people do is bitch because it's not some cheesy comic book like or Christopher Reeves like lame ass movie.

Angry Lonnie on May 14, 2014

Looks awesome. Can't wait. I liked Man of Steel so I am really looking forward to this one.

TK on May 13, 2014

Looks cool. I just don't know why they would make the suit look vascular. Its as pointless as the nipples.

grimjob on May 13, 2014

Unless its done that way that it looks like he is really that big, and there is no armour in the suit, pretty intimitating sight.

ProjectionistHP on May 14, 2014

This is being directed by the same man who made 300 and Man of Steel. I highly doubt this costume is adding any muscular effect. Thats all Ben Affleck. Look closer and you can actually see the material is about the same thickness of the man of steel costume if not thinner.

Josef Saltpeppaketchup Woods on May 14, 2014

It isn't spandex. That's not all Affleck.

grimjob on May 14, 2014

Not too bad for a teaser pic. Affleck looks pretty cool in the suit. I think people are still holding afflecks portrayal of daredevil against him. I feel that's the reason people are skeptical. But that movie came out 11 years ago. Affleck has improved as an actor and film maker so I have a feeling he will pull this off. I doubt Snyder would make a mistake in casting such an important character.

Marcus on May 14, 2014

Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na... FAT MAAAAN!

ali3000 on May 14, 2014

I wonder if that Southie loser is wearing Daredevil Underoos under that cool Batman suit? Go back to card counting in Vegas putz and let someone else do this.

SteadyEddieTX on May 14, 2014

not much of a picture. plus I thought they had some new never been done before bat suit or something. doesn't look like much. either way, ben sucks.

Angry Lonnie on May 14, 2014

This is a total rip-off of the TDKReturns suit, which looked better in the comics and in the anime on a square-jawed Bruce Wayne (Josh Brolin, for instance). On Affleck, it makes him somewhat look like the Batman from Year One.

Vish Gos on May 14, 2014

Rip off?

Xerxexx on May 15, 2014

The Batmobile is a total wuss. I'm not surprised a loud-shirt like Zack Snyder would evoke the silly rear-finned dragster looked that died with Schumacher. He should have based the car on the late 2000's muscle car concept, like the Dodge Viper.

Vish Gos on May 14, 2014

Loud shirt?

Xerxexx on May 15, 2014

I hope this film is as good as the hit tv show Arrow... hahahahaha

shane willett on May 15, 2014

Im Batman and I eat 4,000 calories a day, all protein...
