'Zoolander 2' Ready to Turn Left Again with Justin Theroux Directing
Ever since Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues was greenlit and unleashed in theaters last year, fans have been hoping that Paramount Pictures would also grant the same courtesy to Zoolander 2, the sequel to Ben Stiller's comedy favorite from 13 years ago. The film has been developing for years, and this year rumblings of it finally happening came from both co-star Will Ferrell and Justin Theroux, who was named as co-writer and director of the sequel back in 2010. Now Deadline reports the project has life again with Theroux still directing from his own script, and a sexy new co-star has popped up on the catwalk too.
Penelope Cruz has signed on to star in the comedy sequel that will also see the return of Will Ferrell as crazy fashion designer Mugatu and Owen Wilson as Zoolander's formal rival Hansel (Owen Wilson). Previously we heard that the film would take place in real-time after the events of the first film and catch up with our favorite male models about 10 years later. Of course, since more time has passed since then, some details of the timeline and story might have changed. The trade hypothesizes that the success of Dumb & Dumber To, fueled by nostalgia for the original 1994 comedy might have helped make this a reality finally, but no matter what the reason, it'll be nice to have Zoolander back. Sound good?
