Edge of Tomorrow

Sadly, audiences didn't head to theaters in greater numbers to see Edge of Tomorrow (or Live Die Repeat as it's now known on home video). It's a shame, because the Tom Cruise vehicle proved to be far more entertaining the even the trailers led on, and it's a fantastic and fun sci-fi action adventure. And if you're just now stumbling upon the greatness that is Edge of Tomorrow, perhaps you'd like to know more about the visual effects. Thankfully, Academy Originals just released a new installment that looks at how the final sequence in Paris was created, mostly with visual effects, and it's an impressive look behind the scenes.

Here's the Academy Originals latest Behind the Scene of Edge of Tomorrow from YouTube:

Edge of Tomorrow is set in the distant future during war between a race of aliens called Mimics and the human race. A soldier fighting in a war with aliens finds himself caught in a time loop of his last day in the battle, though he becomes better skilled along the way. Tom Cruise plays Lt. Col. Bill Cage, an untrained and ill-equipped officer who is dropped "into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission," but gets stuck in a time loop on the same mission. Doug Liman (Go, Bourne Identity, Jumper) is directing. Warner Bros. released Edge of Tomorrow, now Live Die Repeat, in theaters and now it's available on Digital Download.

Brilliant film.

The film was great fun but let's face it, Tom Cruise was in it. He's become a joke and people are avoiding anything he's in. I put Oblivion in the same category.

I don't know what rock you've been hiding under. Tom Cruise has been at the top of the A list longer than anyone I can think of in recent years. Sure he's a kook but he's a fantastic actor. Put oblivion in the boring catagory just like that boring Tron movie instead.

I guess I just don't drink the same koolaid as some people do. I didn't say it wasn't an "A lister", I just said he's a joke and people avoid his movies these days. He isn't the draw he use to be.

His personal life may be a joke, but people who see movies based on that aren't a huge demographic. And they certainly haven't stopped ghost protocol and edge of tomorrow from doing very well. The new mission impossible movie will draw them in too.

I have to agree with Todd here. Unfortunately quite a number of people do see too much of his personal life (comes with being an A Lister I guess), but the stuff that comes out generally works against him. I've actually seen people turn away from movies because he is in it. I for one loved this movie. I think his personal life is his alone to deal with and I have enjoyed his last few movies. Ghost Protocol, Jack Reacher etc. They certainly haven't reached the heights or the returns that the studios expected.

You're just talking bs here. These movies made a huge return overseas. Tom is still massive in Europe and Asia. People just don't care about his personal antics as much and just enjoy the movies. And lets face it, as crazy as Tom may seem, he hasn't really harmed anyone here in any way. Just ignorant to avoid his movies because of what you read in the trash papers, IMO.

TC's personal antics and his association with Scientology (aka: cult) definitely affect his movie audience or lack of. I think people do think he's harmed people because Scientology has harmed people. And they see TC as one of its leaders - guilty by association.

Yo I said I enjoyed his movies and his personal life is his to deal with. It doesn't affect how I enjoy his movies but people do read those tabloids and all we are saying is it has affected his returns. He makes big money overseas because the tabloids don't really care about what he does. I live in Australia and people here still go to see Cruise' movies but there are some who avoid it. Studios really only care about the North American returns because moving money around is a logistical nightmare so they always partner up with local distributors which they often only get part of the revenue. Edge of Tomorrow made $100m in America on a $178m budget not including advertising and so on. Jack Reacher made $80m on $60m budget and Oblivion made $90m on a $120m budget. These aren't great numbers for a market as big as North America is.

Tom Cruise hasn't Starred in a non- Mission Impossible film in the last 10-15 years that has done the expected business. Partly this is just a factor of being familiar and 50+ years old. He's (mostly) managed his career very well. I regret that this is hurting worthy films like this one and Oblivion. But soon there are going to be very, very heavy legal consequences for him and the rest of the top dogs in the Criminal Organization calling itself the 'Church' of Scientology. The truth si coming out, and they can no longer threaten/sue/blackmail/smear whistle-blowers into silence any more. I sincerely hoe Mr Cruise jumps off the ship before it drags him down with it and uses what is left of his reputation to save lives rather than destroy them. If not, his career will be the least of the casualties.

Let's face it, get that stick out of your ass. Who cares what TC does in his private life? Scientology or not. He doesn't force anyone to join it or even think about it. His movies are always entertaining and he gives his all (MI4 outside the building stunt) so you gotta respect that.

Sascha Dikiciyan on Apr 27, 2015

Wow. Someone expresses an honest and definitely not a solitary opinion and you think they have a stick up their ass? TC's personal antics definitely affect his movie audience or lack of. Normal people see Scientology as the cult that it is and they see TC as one of its leaders and avoid his movies. I enjoy his movies. I enjoyed this movie. The effects where amazing. But you could have put in someone else and the movie would have been just as good and probably had a bigger audience.

He's the public face of a cult that has destroyed thousands of lives.... I reckon the families of those lives he's ruined might 'care'!

Loved this movie despite Tom Cruise. I agree, it probably would have had a broader audience with Chris Pratt - that's a joke people. (A joke about CP but not TC)

Andthen he takes your13 bucks and spends it on enslaving children to paint wildflowers different colors so he and his lady friened can run through them... I loved this film, and I regret that it didn't do the business it deserved at the box office, but you have no idea what you are talking about (or rather, trying to get other people to stop talking about). I don't care if he believes in Aliens, Zombie Jesus, or Buddha-- But I do care when people are being harmed-- enslaved, tortured and killed. You might want to read a book or see a movie on the subject before you go spouting off about how no one should be concerned about 'personal lives' when what is being discussed are crimes. Why not start with 'Going Clear', the documentary by multiple Oscar -winner Alex Gibney. Then, perhaps you'll be interested int he book of the same name, by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist (and the man who exposed the inner-working of al-Qaeda, LAawrence Wright-- Oh, I'm sorry- Would that be dragging Bin Laden's personal life into it? Perhaps we whould jsut concentrateon buying his family's excellent petroleum products and say nothing?

Well, we cotha agree you deaf. Just go see his movies an stop spreading your ignorance about what you know nothing about then. i don’t care what you see, but say such stupid crap in front of me and I will correct you.
