We have another! Just a few weeks before the 2015 Cannes Film Festival starts, where Quebecois filmmaker Xavier Dolan will be sitting on the Jury, Seville Pictures has announced a few details about another new Dolan film. Dolan will be directing Only The End Of The World, or officially Just La Fin Du Monde, with production starting in May. He's got quite the cast, too: Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux, Vincent Cassel, Nathalie Baye, and Gaspard Ulliel. Now that is an impressive set of actors, a step up from his past few films but hopefully it'll turn out just as good (don't forget Dolan's Mommy was my #1 film of 2014).
Dolan has been talking about his next few films ever since finishing up work on Mommy last year. I spoke with Xavier at the Telluride Film Festival, and he mentioned possibly shooting parts of his next film (John F. Donovan) in Cannes. This new film Only The End Of The World, however, is something entirely different (via The Playlist). It's inspired by a play by Jean-Luc Lagarce, telling the story of a writer who returns home after a twelve year absence to announce her death. Apparently Dolan explains the project as the "bridge between his past work and his much bigger scaled film with Chastain." Because right after this, he'll move right into directing The Death and Life of John F. Donovan with Jessica Chastain once again. Very busy guy.
Details are rather sparse, but it sounds like production on Only The End Of The World will begin soon. He'll supposedly shoot this one first, before filming The Death and Life of John F. Donovan (about an American movie star who finds his correspondence with an 11-year-old actor exposed, prompting assumptions that begin to destroy his life and career) later this year. As a big Xavier Dolan fan myself, I'm looking forward to seeing him direct two new films back-to-back. For now I'm just going to step back and let him do his work, starting with jury duty at Cannes. Stay tuned for more updates - and catch my interview with Dolan again.

Jesus, I am so jealous and inspired by this guy. Such young incredible raw talent. It's a bit intimidating that at such a young age he has so much accomplished but it also drives me to work harder and catch up. Can't wait.

dude, he was born into the industry. All you fawning over how much he's done by this age need to know this fact. There's plenty of people in the world if given such a break, could build an impressive body of work.

Jaden Smith was also born into the industry... I agree with you that he may have had an advantage but that doesn't make it any less impressive that has already directed a number of well received films. He is young and talented filmmaker.

Xavier Dolan is really phenomenal. At the age of 25 years old, he's managed to build an admirable body of work. He has to be among the most fascinating filmmakers of his generation and I really can't wait to watch this. The cast is jaw-dropping to say the least.
