'Arrow' Star Stephen Amell to Play Casey Jones in 'Ninja Turtles 2'
Following last week's addition of Alessandra Ambrosio to the cast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 as a seemingly inexplicable love interest for cameraman Vernon Fenwick (Will Arnett), the sequel has lined up a new supporting star taking a role that will have fans pretty excited. Variety has learned that "Arrow" series star Stephen Amell has taken the role of the hockey-masked crime fighter and turtle ally Casey Jones. The trade reports Amell tested for the role with about six other actors over the weekend, and it was his chemistry with Megan Fox as April O'Neil that convinced the studio he was right for the job. Read on!
If his chemistry with Fox was key, then there must be some kind of romantic sparks flying for these two. While I'm glad to hear Casey Jones will be in this sequel (even though I'm skeptical of the quality after hating the first one), I'm not so thrilled with this casting choice. Frankly, I don't find Amell to be a good actor. He's wooden and boring, reminding me a lot of Jai Courtney or Sam Worthington. And Amell certainly has a lot to live up to when it comes to the Casey Jones from the original film adaptation, because Elias Koteas was great in the role. Stay tuned for more updates as the rest of the cast gets rounded up.
Boo...why can't these guys learn where their bread is buttered? Amell is great on THE ARROW.

Greeeeeeat fucking choice. And I don't curse often on here.

This is going to sound odd, but I absolutely love the show "The Arrow," but I think Amell is one of the worst actors. I don't know how that happens, but I love watching it while totally realizing that I'm watching sub-par acting. That said, I don't know how I feel about this. Part of me has such a liking for the guy that I'm in full support, another side of me thinks that it could only add to the failure that was the first movie.

I'm right there with you. I love the show but I think its just the geek/kid in me that likes it. The acting is awful, everyone in the show is stereotypically beautiful, some of the fight scenes are just bad. But I like the writing and some of the action. I like seeing the villains brought to life on the show. Slade was pretty cool on the show. Lol

His acting is pretty hokey, like when he plays his younger sillier self in Arrow. Maybe the show is just so bad it makes him seem worse.

It's funny this comes up, cause I didn't realize Amell was an actual actor, I thought he was some fitness guy that somehow landed the role of Queen/Arrow. His performance seems reasonable on The Arrow, but it'll be interesting to see him take on Casey Jones. And for the record, I never watched the first movie, and will more then likely not watch the second one either.

Amell has been great as Oliver Queen and The Arrow. It is a difficult character to play....being a dark and not-so-lively character, and Amell has done well. I think people are mixing the actor with the character and I think that further goes to show that he is playing the character really well. Sure, there is a big difference between TV and cinema, but I look forward to seeing him in movies.

I watched arrow two seasons and than the strangest re occurrences where happening! Everybody who is killed in the show are like Jesus, they keep coming back from the dead over and over again! That said:Stephen Amel does a good job portraying the arrow!

I never consider any character dead, unless they actually die on screen. So far only 4 have done that, Mr. Queen, Mrs. Queen, Tommy and Sara. Everyone else that has been 'dead' were only assumed dead.

You have a point there, but people who I speak say after one season of arrow you think :it's one big mess of endlessly returning characters... They don't watch it anymore like I do and the Lord knows I've tried to hold on because I liked it very much to! Now it's become a soap opera with sometimes a fighting sequence.

HAHAHAHAH AAAAHHHHAHAHAHAH... what is that i hear ... yep .... poop flushing down the toilet ... i dont care what characters or what actors they hope will make this new series better.. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN... the new one had so many plot holes , splinter learns his "UNIQUE " fighting styles from books, no direct connection to shredder , it was all about april, shredder was megatron, the stupid villain had tanks built for the turtles before he even knew about the turtles and all of them were wannabe gangsters ... The new IDW comic series used reincarnation to bring them back and it is an awesome story , the new nick series combined the comics and the original show and it works... this new movie series ...FAILED DRASTICALLY, the new origins did not make sense... its a perfect example of having a lot of ideas and keeping them all instead of going with 60 % original and %40 new concept

Stephen Amell has a very weird way of acting, he looks off to the side and then makes eye contact when he is having a conversation with people. It is very odd, has anyone else noticed him do this?
TV_Seat on Mar 31, 2015
I have but I think he makes a pretty good Arrow. Love that show.
Rock n Rollllll on Apr 1, 2015
Thanks for admitting you noticed it as well.

I haven't watched anything else he's been in but it always seems like it happens in present day Arrow and not during his flashbacks.
ColtNoir on Apr 1, 2015
I am glad someone else has noticed this. I will have to remember to look out for this. He seems to do it when her has "intense" conversations with people.
TV_Seat on Apr 1, 2015
I believe the 'face is turned, but I am still looking at you' conveys "I'm ashamed of my past, but I'm not going to hide from it'. Like ColtNoir, I am fairly certain he only does this in present day, no tin the flashbacks. Hopefully he can bring the enthusiasm and humor to the role that is Casey Jones, but I am not getting my hopes up, so as not to be disappointed.

I think it's just good acting. a subtle tweak to his character - hopefully it's talked about at some point. It comes off as his character is suppressing his annoyance with having to explain his actions or reasons to people who hasn't been through what he's been through. that may be over-thinking it but that's the reason that I came up with. I think, like mentioned before, people, unfamiliar with the Arrow character, are taking his almost stoic character he's playing on Arrow at face value and coming to conclusions that he's a "bad" actor. I didn't like the first tmnt movie but I'm more optimistic now that he's cast in it.
ColtNoir on Apr 2, 2015
Just get to Krang already. And make him funny.
OfficialJab on Apr 1, 2015
First Megan Fox and now this. CM Punk was a perfect choice.
Angry Lester on Apr 1, 2015
Seems like the overwhelming reaction to this casting choice is negative. Whereas I was very happy to hear that he was cast. I think he does a great job on arrow and he is one of the more friendly and responsive actor/celebrities around. His facebook account just demonstrates how good of a guy he is. I had no plans on seeing any of the new TMNT movies. That is, until they cast Stephen Amell. Now I will at least be seeing the second one.
