As Warner Bros. Pictures and Bradley Cooper are enjoying the success of American Sniper at the box office, even though it was dethroned by SpongeBob SquarePants last weekend, the studio is looking to reteam with the Oscar-nominated actor again. THR has word that Warner Bros. is in the midst of picking up Orphan X, a yet-to-be-published book by Gregg Hurwitz that will be produced by Cooper, who also has an eye towards possibly starring in the film. The project marks another collaboration between Cooper and The Hangover director Todd Phillips by way of their new production banner that is based at Warner Bros.
The book won't be published until February of 2016, so details are light as far as the story is concerned. What we do know is that the book is a thriller focusing on a man named Evan Smoak, known as "Nowhere Man," who helps others, sometime through violent means. His latest job draws him into a world of human slavery, engineered by a detective of the Los Angeles Police Department. Sounds like this could be Cooper's own Jack Reacher or The Equalizer, which doesn't sound all that exciting, but the right filmmaker could make it good, especially since Hurwitz has roots in comic books. Stay tuned for more.
