"This is a deliberate escalation… this has to stop!" Focus Features has debuted the full-length trailer for Suffragette, starring Meryl Streep as Mrs. Pankhurst plus Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, and Romola Garai. Suffragette is a film about the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State. This powerful yet sensitive trailer shows how hard it was to be a part of this fight, both physically and emotionally. This looks like it might end up being really, really good - potential awards buzz and lots more.
Here's the full-length trailer for Sarah Gavron's Suffragette, direct from Focus Features:
Suffragette is directed by Sarah Gavron (Brick Lane) and written by Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady). The film tracks the story of the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State. These women were not primarily from the genteel educated classes, they were working women who had seen peaceful protest achieve nothing. Radicalized and turning to violence as the only route to change, they were willing to lose everything in their fight for. Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, Meryl Streep, Brendan Gleeson and Ben Whishaw also star in the film. Suffragette hits limited theaters in the US starting on October 23rd.

Considering what was fight for women's right then and what is now, this is escapism. Today, feminism isn't so clear about its goals as it was then. And definitely, not so fair in its judgments as it was then ... So, I do like the leading actress, but I'm not sure about watching this ...

Well, man, that's pretty much the entire fucking Middle East (and, to a lesser, but still important extent, India).

Well, damn, man. Ah, well. It's time to, literally, separate the true men from the wimpy little boys, eh, bro?

Does anyone know when this will be released to the general public... and not just limited? I was hoping to see this this weekend... but it appears that I can't.
