Check Out Mark Watney's Training Promo Video for 'The Martian'

Leave Your Mark. With only a few more weeks until the release of Ridley Scott's The Martian, Fox is pushing out all of their final marketing to get everyone in the mood for a (rescue) mission to Mars. Fox has already created some excellent promos, including this Neil deGrasse Tyson bit, and this is another one. This video is an "in-world" creation, designed to feel like Matt Damon was actually Mark Watney and this is a commercial for the mission. It focuses on the "pre-mission training program" and the "rigorous emotional, physical, and mental preparation required of the ARES 3 crew in order to prepare for their" journey to Mars.

The Martian is directed by Ridley Scott (Alien, Gladiator, Prometheus) and written by Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods). Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) became one of the first people to walk on Mars. But after a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. But Mark isn’t ready to give up yet. Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Donald Glover, Sebastian Stan and more star in the film. 20th Century Fox will release The Martian this fall starting October 2nd.

This trailer is a bit lame, but it made me go look up the other one. I'm interested, though it seems like the (other) trailer gave away the whole story.

It's crazy how much product placement there is in movies.... I just rewatched "Age of Ultron" on a plane ride, and every car that got flung by the Hulk or Ultron was an Audi....and of course Tony Stark drives an Audi as well.

The backstory videos for this movie are getting increasingly silly. This was a just a commercial that cheapens the film. Don't they think the movie can stand on its own merits?
