Dan Stevens to Star Beside Emma Watson in 'Beauty and the Beast'
Hot on the heels of news that The Hobbit franchise star Luke Evans had taken the villainous role of Gaston in Disney's live-action retelling of Beauty and the Beast, we finally have the man who will take the other titular role opposite Emma Watson as Belle. THR reports Dan Stevens, star of The Guest and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, has taken the role of the Prince cursed to be a beast in the film that will be directed by Dreamgirls helmer Bill Condon. So far the entire cast is British, but it remains to be seen if they will use their native accents or put on American accents like the characters had in the animated version.
For those who may not be familiar, Beauty and the Beast tells the story of a bright, chipper young woman who takes her father’s place as a prisoner in a monstrous being’s castle after he's caught trespassing on his property, only to fall in love with the creature, who turns out to be a prince under a curse. Stevens is a great choice for the role, especially if you're familiar with his work on "Downton Abbey." This is the latest in Disney's new line of live-action reinterpretations of their classic fairytales that began with Maleficent last year and continues with Cinderella this month. For my money, Beauty and the Beast has the potential to be the best, especially with a cast like this, but we'll find out eventually.
True. A good question about a story set in France. Will there be American accents or British?

Most likely British. The villagers will be cockney and the personnel of the castle will all talk with French accents, except the clock and the teapot who will be posh British

Now that the main characters have been cast, there's only one thing now this movie still needs: release date.
