Daniel Cudmore Will Not Play Metal Mutant Colossus in 'Deadpool'

February 17, 2015

Just last week, we learned that MMA fighter turned actress Gina Carano would join Ryan Reynolds for the anticipated big screen adaptation of Deadpool. At the same time, it was reported that the metal mutant Colossus would also be involved in the X-Men spin-off, but we didn't know if franchise star Daniel Cudmore, who played the character in X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past, would be back to play the character. Now the actor himself has taken to Twitter to clarify that he will not be part of Deadpool, meaning a new actor will be cast as the strong, Russian mutant. Read on!

Here's Daniel Cudmore's updates on Twitter about not playing Colossus in Deadpool:

There's no indication as to whether or not we'll actually get a Russian version of Colossus this time, but that would be nice. At the same time, we don't know just how big of a part Colossus will have. Of course, one would think that if Fox feels the need to recast the role that it would be substantial part that requires a bigger name than Cudmore. The question is whether or not this new version of Colossus will be part of future X-Men movies. Though since X-Men: Apocalypse takes place in the 80s, we're betting we won't see Colossus pop up there, especially since there's plenty of other younger X-Men entering the mix already. We'll just have to wait and see how Colossus fits into this new X-Men timeline and future films. Upset?

They should cast Alexander Nevsky.

I'm not a fan of the way they just play 'touch and go' with these sort of things. 'It is all one franchise, but not really because we use time travel to erase/change everything, these characters are still played by the same actors, but these characters all get re-cast' Wolverine and Deadpool don't get re-cast because Jackman and Reynolds are 'names/stars' that they want in the roles, but characters like Gambit, Toad, and Colossus get re-cast/changed completely because they either don't give a crap about consistency(Toad) or they likely want "stars" to take over the roles(Gambit and Colossus) It's like they want all of the benefits of 'one big universe/franchise' without ANY of the responsibility/obligation of keeping things consistent across multiple films. They stick to the program when they want, and whenever they feel like it, they say 'nope, screw that, lets change it completely'. I don't like that.

Thats Hollywood..and truth is they do focus groups on stuff like this all the time. He was a minor character that had no lines and truth is no one really cared for him in the Xmen movies.

"Thats Hollywood", well, that is painting 'all of Hollywood' with one brush, and is a bit unfair. Marvel Studios has an extreme eye and appreciation for continuity. They've actually made the continuity of their franchise stronger with every entry, they've only re-cast characters when legitimate behind the scenes reasons caused it....not due to a lack of not giving a crap. In fact, in modern blockbuster film-making, the X-Men series is probably one of the most heinous perpetrators of flagrant re-casting.

wot? LOL...I mean okay. It is not like he talked a lot in the first couple he was featured in.

I can only imagine this is a cost-saving move - he's been in three X-Men movies so far, they probably want someone new who will work for scale.
