Freeheld Trailer

"If you could have anything, what would it be? What's your dream?" Lionsgate has debuted the official trailer for Peter Sollett's new film Freeheld, a moving drama starring Ellen Page and Julianne Moore as domestic partners. The story focuses on their struggle to keep a pension intact when Laurel Hester, played by Julianne Moore, is diagnosed with cancer. The supporting cast includes Steve Carell, Michael Shannon, Josh Charles and Luke Grimes. This has one of those very inspirational, hopeful, powerful messages of "change the world" at the end, complete with pop song. But it also looks really good, especially the two lead performances. Ellen Page looks to be at her best, and Moore is always at her best. #loveislove

Here's the first official trailer for Peter Sollett's Freeheld, originally from Buzzfeed:

Freeheld Trailer

New Jersey police lieutenant, Laurel Hester (Julianne Moore), and her registered domestic partner, Stacie Andree (Ellen Page), both battle to secure Hester's pension benefits when she is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Freeheld is directed by American filmmaker Peter Sollett, of the films Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, Raising Victor Vargas and Five Feet High and Rising previously. The screenplay is written by Ron Nyswaner (Philadelphia). Summit/Lionsgate will release Freeheld in theaters starting on October 2nd this fall. This looks like one to keep an eye on. seems like an odd pairing what with the big difference in ages of the 2 leads.

2

Not really. Just look at hetero pairings in film...

Yay! Michael Shannon! // "Domestic partners"? Please. Time to stop using legalese to describe their relationships and just say wife or husband.

DAVIDPD on Jul 22, 2015

4

Well, the legalese is over now, but more-than-likely when this is filmed same-sex marriage was probably unrecognized. It seems like that's the focus of the film.

The legal battle is over. Yes. But people using legalese to describe the relationships is not. People will continue to dance around calling spouses "wives" or "husbands" because it makes them feel awkward. "Othering" minorities often makes people in the majority feel closer (for some reason). // This film's premise is now moot. LOL.

You're right, but you're wrong with regard the film. Read the synopsis and understand why using marriage words would be wrong in this context. The plot of the film (based on a true story) revolves around Julianna Moore's character being able to pass on pension benefits to Ellen Page's character. So the term is part of the context of the time.

last week I've seen sense8 and it was very very beautiful and the wachowski's did realy prove themselves as masters of the sience fiction genre. But I would like to know from the regular visitors of this site what they think of it. Please share your opinion, because sense8 is in my eyes under rated by the professional critics....

I'll get back to you on that....it's on my "to do" list....

I quite enjoyed it. Definitely took a few episodes to get into since they had to introduce so many characters but once they started making use of their powers it got really good. I think they could have gone farther with the premise and I hope they will in future seasons. It just seemed arbitrary who and when the sense8's would feel eachother. Like the whole orgy thing, why didn't all of them feel that and partcipate? Or how come Sun didn't help Capheus that one time he got a beat down. They just need to more clearly establish what causes certain sense8's to connect with the others. I'm definitely excited to see another season though.

thanks for your answer. Yes it has it minor flaws but I felt realy connected to the characters and especially the gay couple and the German gangster... Sometimes it's a little bit slow, but it is neccesary to get empathy for storylines. Also the locations throughout the world where very well chosen. And indeed I hope they stick to the plans to make five seasons....

Yo Ari, I was actually looking into watching it but it wasn't getting good reviews. Lemme check it out.
