First Trailer for 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend'
"Once he has the sword that will be the end of all of this." Netflix has finally debuted the first official trailer for the sequel Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend, which is not awaited by anyone. The original film, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon directed by Ang Lee, was a near perfect martial arts film that won 4 Oscars. Now some 16 years later they're following up with a sequel. Michelle Yeoh returns, joined by Donnie Yen, Harry Shum Jr., Jason Scott Lee, Eugenia Yuan and Juju Chan. This isn't the same Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon we all remember, it's been updated and not in the best of ways. Now the CGI work is even more obvious, but I guess they had to top themselves somehow. Fire it up below.
Here's the first full trailer for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend, from Netflix:
The sequel, titled officially Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend, is directed by legendary martial arts filmmaker/stuntman Yuen Woo-ping, who has directed films like Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, Drunken Master, Tiger Cage, Iron Monkey, and True Legend most recently. With a budget that's "a multiple of that for the 2000 film", this sequel is set 20 years after the events of the first movie, and follows four martial arts heroes trying to protect the Green Destiny sword. The original Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, directed by Ang Lee, was a breakout sensation for Sony Pictures Classics back in 2000. Netflix will releease The Green Legend in IMAX theaters + VOD starting February 8th, 2016 next year.

Didn't expect this to be on Netflix. Looks very cool. I'm sure it won't have the magic the original had but I still want to see it. If it's in the IMAX here in Toronto I'll definitely check it out there.

Always down for some CTHD. Cant go wrong with Donnie Yen and Jason Scott Lee.

This looks like a hot mess....

Looked more like an episode of Legend of the Seeker, not a CTHD sequel... And what is up with the music, did not fit the trailer at all...

Ouright, might be solid, might be horrible. Song is horrible...

Some of the action looks pretty decent, but man, Im REALLY not digging how digital this looks. I realize thats kind of industry standard these days, but that was for me one of the biggest appeals of the original, that it looks so natural, with very limited CGI in the landscapes or fight scenes.

Donnie Yen's scenes will probably be worth it to watch.

That song...you chose poorly

Wow, the CGI looks like too much! I also agree with others that the choice of music for this trailer seemed WAY off...but, as a big fan of the original, I'll watch this one for free on Netflix. Glad to see Michelle Yeoh back in action. Guess she had some free time from babysitting that decadent agent of a corrupt Western power.

This is very offensive to the original, can't see the reason to watch. It seems that cost-benefit dilemma looked positively for the producers ...

I really enjoyed the first... now I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Whoever put this trailer just doesn't get it. A huge part of what made the first one so achingly beautiful was Tan Dun and Yo yo ma. At least use something similar.

Going way deep into fantasy? Dig. Also, they are speaking English this time?

I wish this came out when I was ten. Hope the story is decent.

I dig Donnie Yen, and Michelle Yeoh will be good. Also, what a godawful Creedence cover.

Does anyone remember that one D&D movie that had Marlon Wayans in it? This made me think of that kinda.

hmm Alex it CAN"T be just like the CTHD we remember ( it was being replayed on Starz most of Nov ) , as then we'd rag on it for being derivative ..Gotta be a new story . I see the issue being that CTHD was in the main about a pair of love stories , and whether the male from one and the young girl from another , would " hook up " ( in a sense Ang teased ) . Then , it was about the martial arts ( Best being Zhang Ziyi and Yeoh's one ) , and the landscapes .. so this trailer gives us B and C , but no sense of A ... if we get a decent story , then excess CGI use will be ignored .. the "foot propelled flying" they did was used well in several scenes . People only complained about it as being in the genre at all .. if the movie's All and Only about a "Holy Grail quest " for the sword , then yes it won't compare to CTHD .. And wasn't this supposed to be out in Nov ?? Sticking it in Film Deadzone Feb , is somewhat telling of how its studio views it

No. Thanks, but no. And if John Fogerty (CCR) was dead, he'd be turning in his grave. As would Ang Lee.

As long as that awful song isn't in the movie, I'll watch it for sure. If these were Marvel characters or Jedis everyone would be jacked about this instead of trashing it.
