After debuting at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, Ryan Gosling's directorial debut Lost River is heading to theaters and VOD this spring. But if you're more of a mainstream fan of Gosling, this doesn't look like it's going to be something you'll enjoy. Gosling has opted to go with a surreal style for his first time behind the camera, and sadly it seems to be weird just for the sake of being weird. The buzz, or rather lack thereof, from Cannes seems to echo that sentiment. But there's a good cast here with Iain De Caestecker, Eva Mendes, Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan, Ben Mendelsohn and Matt Smith starring. Watch!
Here's the first trailer for Ryan Gosling's Lost River from Warner Bros. Pictures:
Lost River (formerly known as How to Catch a Monster) is written and directed by Ryan Gosling (star of Drive, The Ides of March, Crazy Stupid Love), making his feature directorial debut. Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, Billy (Christina Hendricks), a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while Bones (Iain De Caestecker), her eighteen-year-old son, discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive. Saoirse Ronan, Eva Mendes and Ben Mendelsohn also star in the film that will premiere at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, and Warner Bros. Pictures will release it on VOD and in limited theaters April 10th.

Looks very interesting to me, I'm glad he's not making generic Hollywood flicks.

Agreed. The trailer does look really interesting. It sucks that this got such scathing reviews, but I feel like I have to at least give it a chance.

Looks like absolute nonsense but it's VOD so I'm not going to complain.

Looks like the brainchild of Terrence Malick (my favorite director) and David Lynch and a little of Harmony Korine (my favorite director). The teaser trailer sold me more, but still looking forward.

sometimes I really wonder what makes actors to become directors, but then again, who knows, this one might turn out to be good ...
