The 5th Wave

"We're fighting simultaneous attacks in the last metropolitan areas." Sony has finally debuted an actual trailer for the sci-fi fan film The 5th Wave, which has been marketed and designed from the start for the fans of the book series. The 5th Wave is the first movie adapted from The 5th Wave series of science fiction books, starring Chloƫ Grace Moretz as a girl in the middle of an alien invasion trying to find her missing brother. The cast includes Liev Schreiber, Maika Monroe, Nick Robinson, Maggie Siff, Maria Bello and Ron Livingston. They're trying to push this as the next big sci-fi alien invasion thriller, but it looks like a cheesy mash-up of Independence Day and Falling Skies, or something like that. Not really my kind of sci-fi. You?

Here's the first official trailer for J Blakeson's The 5th Wave, straight from Sony's YouTube:

The 5th Wave Poster

In the new film The 5th Wave, four waves of increasingly deadly extra-terrestrial attacks have left most of Earth decimated. Cassie (Chloƫ Grace Moretz) is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. The 5th Wave is directed by English filmmaker J Blakeson, of the films The Disappearance of Alice Creed and the short The Appointment previously. The screenplay is written by Susannah Grant (of Erin Brockovich), adapted from Rick Yancey's novel of the same name. Sony Pictures will release The 5th Wave in select theaters on January 15th, 2016 early next year. For more updates follow @5thWaveMovie.

This I want to see! Big spaceships, destruction and a little bit a end of the world feel about it! A few days back I did see San Andreas and it was fun to see, so I am in for this one. By the way Cop car is a very good movie ,loved it!

Thank goodness for Netflix.

I don't see how it would take longer than about 5 minutes for them to wipe us all out. Save us Ray Donovan!

bumboclot on Aug 31, 2015

I miss that hammy Southie accent.

DAVIDPD on Aug 31, 2015

Looks like a fabulous TNT Original Movie. But as a least Chloe Moretz will act well.

DAVIDPD on Aug 31, 2015

Another day, another teen sci-fi post apocalyptic near future end of times book to film adaptation *sighs* come on Hollywood really. As if we are not getting tired of this crap already.

Jordan Odinson on Aug 31, 2015

This one is really bad man, at least the others had better VFX...

Zack Snyder on Sep 1, 2015

Yeah, story concept seems kind of interesting, but the themes as expressed by voiceover dialog feel really tired.

Making a movie where the aliens are "humans" in disguise, is just a cheap copout. This story has definitely been done to death.

Brandon Smith on Sep 1, 2015

Yeah, it just screams we saved a bundle on special effects. That, and using old factories as a barren future or burnt out world... ooOOooo...

Bill on Sep 1, 2015

True, a lot of saving on special effects. But, then again, that (special effects) doesn't really help every time. I'm afraid the genre is contaminated with every one of these choices. I guess, solid story and execution is only what saves the whole thing. So, still, this deserves to be seen. But I also agree on having some reservations about it ...

And the 'twist' is the trusted leader (Schreiber) has been one of them all the way? I mean, usually he is the bad guy, isn't he? And other than that; one or two waves would be sufficient to kill us all. If they can cause giant tsunamis they can do anything. But the question is; if we are so puny, why bother to kill us all? Can't they just proceed their real plans while most of us are still alive? What can human survivors do to stop them anyway?

What a buzz kill.

Charles Knowlton on Sep 2, 2015

Was just guessing...But it seems so obvious.

Nash on Sep 2, 2015

Some of it looks good, the rest looks like a mix of Hunger Games, Twilight and shit like that...

dawko on Sep 6, 2015

This looks like a straight to dvd movie with a SLIGHTLY higher budget than normal. I like Chloe, but she's not exactly leading-lady material yet.

Bibowski on Sep 8, 2015

Ur crazy this looks good and she is leading lady material. She has been for some time now.

jasonjrf on Sep 8, 2015

this is shite,,,pure teen crap......flop city...... I'll wait for District 10.....

carrie maybrun on Sep 8, 2015

The OTHERS??? How HACK an without ANY creative protocol.... Look like US? Pure crap - if you re going to do sci fi - have the balls and vision to create a REAL alien!!! Like Blomkamp - original and realisitic.... this is kiddy nonsense...

carrie maybrun on Sep 8, 2015
