Hugh Jackman & Patrick Stewart Teaming Up for 'Wolverine 3'?

Hugh Jackman & Patrick Stewart

While 2016 is sleted to be a big year for X-Men with the arrival of Deadpool, Gambit and X-Men: Apocalypse, let's not forget that the next installment of the Wolverine spin-off franchise (which we've been calling The Wolverine 2, though it's technically the third film for the character) is coming on March 3rd, 2017. Last we heard, Hugh Jackman was still figuring out how his deal for X-Men: Apocalypse and a new Wolverine movie would work out, but it sounds like plans are coming together. Patrick Stewart was recently speaking with Oregon Live (via ComingSoon) and he revealed that Professor X will be involved.

Here's what Stewart had to say about his future in the X-Men series:

“What I’m very excited about is that we have been talking about a Wolverine movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together. Wolverine and Professor Xavier. That would be a very different sort of ‘X-Men’ from the four movies that I’ve already done.”

That sounds like it would be pretty cool. After all, whenever Wolverine has gotten his own film, he hasn't teamed up with any established characters from the X-Men universe, though they have introduced plenty of other new characters for him to work with or battle. But this would be the first time he would actually work with a well-known character from the original X-Men trilogy in his own franchise. As for what these two would be doing on their own adventure, that remains to be seen. Another question is I'm whether the film would be set after The Wolverine, but before X-Men: Days of Future Past, or if it would be in the future timeline affected by the time travel actions of Days of Future Past.

In addition, Stewart also has changed his tune when it comes to knowledge about the presence of the older versions of Professor X and Magneto (Ian McKellen) in X-Men: Apocalypse. Though it sounds like Stewart's older version of Professor X isn't involved in the sequel, Stewart now says, "Magneto, Ian McKellen, is certainly going to be in it.” That means there must be some kind of flash forward or something involved in the film in order for McKellen to appear. The X-Men universe is certainly getting much more complicated since Days of Future Past, and we're anxious to see how it continues to develop.

I think The Wolverine gets better with each viewing.

I did enjoy it the second time more than the first I'll give it that. I thought it was solid but the climax was anti climatic

was Logan SUPPOSED to die ? , not in a CB movie ... If the Grandaddy is the problem , well , once they decided Shingen wasn't going to be the MAIN Villian , the Grandfather is the obv. choice . they never fleshed this out , but deep down ,he could have been ashamed he DIDN'T take his life , and Let Wolverine save him . so in his mind this would be some sort of saving face with his God . and he still stays ALIVE ! win-win in the Grand Scheme of Things , This was a Filler movie , set in-between X3 and DOFP ; they couldn't have Logan hurt or dead ... also it gets Jackman off the studio's back , as he had been trying to get the Japan story into a movie , from the start Tao and Rila and Sanada , keep the movie entertaining , during Logan's "weakness" period ... once he gets the HF back he's kicking all the ass . ESP if you have the version with the MUCH better Ninja scene . with that scene extended , its easier to see why Harada starts to protect Wolverine .. Respect level went up

I was getting bored of him too, but this sounds all right. That's a cool team.

Meh... X-Men movies' timeline is getting too convoluted for its own good. While Marvel has a future-looking plan as far as continuity goes, FOX just seems to be pulling stuff out of thin air and going with it. Its soon gonna get unmanageable.

Oh yes. Stewart would be a cool foil for The Wolverine. I hope they get to roadtrip together at some point. LOL at the thought of it.
