It's Finally Time for a Terrifying Family Trip with 'The Strangers 2'

It's been seven years since the spooky home invasion thriller The Strangers hit theaters, and the long-expected sequel is finally coming together. The Wrap reports The Strangers 2 now has a director in Marcel Langenegger, who directed the thriller Deception starring Hugh Jackman and Ewan McGregor. The story picks up where the first film left off, this time seeing the masked killers (known as Man in the Mask, Pin Up Girl and Dollface) setting their sights on a family whose teenage children have just discovered their recent handy work in a mobile home park run by their uncle. Can this be just as creepy as the first?
Making things complicated, the family discovers these grisly murders as they are taking a final bonding trip before sending their troubled teenage daughter to boarding school. With their aunt and uncle dead, the teens and their parents find themselves fighting to survive the night from The Strangers. There's a part of me that wonders if the troubling daughter will end up turning on her family and joining the killers on their randomized, meaningless killing spree. The script comes from Chosen writer Ben Katai, so hopefully he's done something other than rehash what we've already seen before.

Loved the first one, probably my favorite horror movie (I'm not a big fan of the genre). I don't see the need for a sequel, but if it manages to be as good as the first one then I'm in.

Seems a bit unnecessary, what with the first one ending nice and movies like The Purge and Youre Next doing similar stuff.

I really really enjoyed the first one, though it has been years since I last saw it. I think it's a bit too late for a sequel, and I would've liked to see the writer/director of the first return. This just feels like it's going to be trying too hard and fail. We'll see.

I do not enjoy home invasion movies. Not because they cannot be exciting but because they are typically poorly written with stupid heroes making bad choices ending in their ruin.

That one was one of the better ones, Most of the folks were dumb but "Discount Jen Lawrence" was pretty good.

I love a good scare, but the first one was just a bland remake of the far better French film Ils (aka Them). But I'm sure it'll do well, with people saying it's the scariest movie since The Exorcist. *sigh*
