'MacGruber' Sequel is Still 'Priority #1' According to Star Will Forte
It's been about six months since we had any real update on the progress of MacGruber 2, a sequel that surprisingly has some legs even though the film bombed hard at the box office. The "Saturday Night Live" feature adaptation of the late night sketch parody of "MacGyver" has gained quite a following on home video though, and star Will Forte and writer/director Jorma Taccone have been at least slowly writing a sequel. And since Forte is currently doing the rounds for his new show "Last Man on Earth" on Fox (which you should watch because Phil Lord & Chris Miller have a hand in it), we have news on how it's progressing
There's a confusing quote going around from Hollywood Life that has Forte saying, "In a couple weeks, when post-production is over, I'm gonna get in there.” Somehow people thought this meant he was in post-production on MacGruber 2 already, when he's clearly talking about post-production on the first season of "Last Man on Earth." MacGruber 2 hasn't been shot yet, and it sounds like it's still being written, because Forte also told The Wrap in a separate update:
"It seems like we have a realistic shot at getting it made. We have a loose outline of the first couple of acts, which we're really excited about. So we've just got to flesh it out a little more."
However, he said that after he's done shooting that other Fox comedy series, MacGruber 2 is "Priority #1." However, there's a chance it could still get held up if "Last Man on Earth" is successful. The actor adds, "If the show were to ever be successful enough to get a second season, we'd probably have to wait until after that season to make it. If the show isn't successful enough to do that, we'd probably jump in right away." So the good news is that MacGruber 2 is still alive and kicking. The bad news is we still don't know when it might actually come together. But we just have to keep your fingers crossed. KFBR392.
I appreciate his passion for this sequel. Even if it never gets made, MACGRUBER will be a classic in my book.

One condition: Son of MacGruber! Shia's guest spot on a couple MacGruber bits was hands down the best MacGruber, ever.

I don't agree with any conditions (they have to make this regardless!) but I would like to see Shia (who I otherwise don't especially care for) as his son. His sketches were the best, but not sure 85 minutes of gay jokes is what the sequel needs, but maybe as a cameo at the end, or a small part. Plus, his sketches were with Vicki (Wiig) as opposed to other SNL women (Rudolph), so it would be a nice reunion, of sorts.

I was surprised at how funny I found MacGruber to be, I'd love a sequel but only if Jorma Taccone is onboard.

MacGruber was the funniest SNL movie to date!
