Marvel Showing 'Ant-Man' Footage Before IMAX 3D 'Jurassic World'

June 8, 2015

See an exclusive sneak peek! IMAX and Disney/Marvel have announced that showings of Jurassic World in IMAX 3D will have special previews of Marvel's Ant-Man in front, with 6-minutes of footage. This is a big marketing push since the movie comes out in just about a month anyway, in July, and this is a chance to get hyped with an extra bit of 3D footage. Paul Rudd plays Scott Lang, who becomes Ant-Man with Hank Pym, played by Michael Douglas, as his mentor. The press release doesn't say if it's one long scene, it just says "more than six minutes of footage will screen exclusively in IMAX theatres domestically and in select international markets beginning June 12th." So go see Jurassic World, if you weren't planning to already.

Here's a short teaser for the Ant-Man IMAX 3D event, in theaters with Jurassic World this Friday:

Ant-Man is directed by Peyton Reed (Yes Man) with a script by Edgar Wright & Joe Cornish, rewritten by Adam McKay and Gabriel Ferrari & Andrew Barrer. Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. Marvel/Disney releases Ant-Man starting July 17th this summer.

Sounds like a bad sign for ANT MAN. Throwing bread crumbs at fanboys.

DAVIDPD on Jun 8, 2015

But fanboys love bread crumbs. They'll eat anything.

TheOct8pus on Jun 9, 2015

They taste like Scott Tenorman's tears.

DAVIDPD on Jun 9, 2015

How is it a bad sign? They had sneak previews exclusively in IMAX for The Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises and I seem to remember those films did OK at the box office. What was the other one, oh that's right, AVATAR.

rodneyjohnson on Jun 9, 2015

You are right, Rodney. THE DARK KNIGHT and its sequel had similar marketing stratagems. I should expect negative things from Marvel Studios showing this footage.

DAVIDPD on Jun 9, 2015

They pulled the same move for Winter Soldier too and looked how well that movie played out. I remember they showed the very beginning in the jet all the way up to Cap counting down to everyone on the ship. That footage alone got everyone stupid stoked. Btw David, I almost didn't recognize you as a dog, lol.

Did you forget that Marvel had an exclusive 10 minute showing of Guardians of the Galaxy last year and that movie turned out to be pretty good. Didn't hurt one bit.

Logan on Jun 9, 2015

You are right, Logan. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY had a similar marketing strategy and indeed it turned out to be pretty good.

DAVIDPD on Jun 9, 2015

I'm sure it will be online.

Jason Scarpelli on Jun 8, 2015

Can't hurt, the film needs all the promotion it can get.

Chris Groves on Jun 9, 2015

but I bet you have a hard on for the matt damon martian movie don't you??

Angry Lester on Jun 9, 2015

Why do you say that? I'm very cautious about that one. Ridley Scott let me down with Prometheus, and I won't even talk about The Counselor or while The Martian looks like it COULD be good...I have serious reservations. I hope you didn't read my comment and assume it was some kind of 'anti-Marvel' statement, I'm a huge Marvel fan, just acknowledging that any bit of good promotion will help Ant-Man(which I'm excited to see) And maybe if you assumed I was anti-Marvel, you also assumed that I was some kind of movie snob and/or Ridley Scott fanboy who thought The Martian looked like a masterpiece? Wrong on both counts, friend.
