'Maze Runner: Death Cure' Set for 2017 Release, Not Split in Two

April 20, 2015

The Maze Runner

Briefly: Even though the sequel Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials doesn't arrive until this fall, that's not stopping 20th Century Fox from setting a release date for the third and final chapter in the young adult sci-fi trilogy. ERC Box Office reports the studio has just set Maze Runner: The Death Cure for release on February 17th, 2017, which is a departure from the fall release window of the previous two films. And the good news, for fans who don't like their final chapter cut up like Harry Potter, The Twilight Saga and The Hunger Games before this, The Death Cure will not be split in two. Since the second film hasn't been released yet, we don't want to say what the third will be about, but you can find out if you really want to.

Why is splitting a final film in two chapters such a bad idea to everyone? If it has enough source material to grow on then yeah the more the better.

Jordan Odinson on Apr 20, 2015

Because in every single case, with the exception of Harry Potter, it hasn't been necessary to do that. It's just been a box office cash grab by the studio.

I'm glad they did it with the hunger games. I read those books and that def had to distinctive parts to it... they addd a bit of action for sure to the first part to make it better for the big screen though

Sky on Apr 20, 2015

by "bit of action", do you mean the :30 minute scene of people running down a stair case scared?

Ryan on Apr 20, 2015

no that was in the book. I dont think she shot down ships with an arrow in the books... i could be wrong though

It's still not about necessarity, it's about wanting to make the decision if the film makers see it for the better, it's not their fault if grumpy people like you (sorry) don't like the results. And yes, studios need money to make more films, duh.

Tuomas Lassila on Apr 21, 2015

If you think it's up to the filmmakers whether or not the film is split in two, then you don't know anything about how the studio system works. It's not grumpy to have an opinion about how to tell a story better. Also "necessarity" is not a word.

Ethan Anderton on Apr 22, 2015

I have a question, and I wish you don't take this as an insult because I won't mean this as an insult: If you don't seem to like modern movie industry that much, why do you write about movies in the first place? Been wondering this for a while.

Tuomas Lassila on Apr 22, 2015

You can like the art and entertainment that an industry such as show business produces while still occasionally being frustrated by the system that creates it, especially when it results in lower quality films, the very thing that we don't want. Writing about movies does not mean you accept every film, studio decision, piece of marketing, etc. at face value and not have an opinion about it. Even directors, producers, actors and anyone involved in making films have major problems with the way the film industry operates from time to time.

Ethan Anderton on Apr 23, 2015

Okay, many good points, but still not fully agreeing with you. What you need is a little optimism.

Tuomas Lassila on Apr 23, 2015

In this case the source material sucks, both the second and third booked sucked !!

I get milked every where these days, my nipples are sore.

Brian Sleider on Apr 21, 2015

Who says you HAVE TO see them if you're not interested?

Tuomas Lassila on Apr 21, 2015

I obviously do not need to see em. I did not see the Hobbit, or the last/next hunger games. I actively avoid "milk the fans" movie. I have yet to see a movie that was split that was worthwhile. Its all to milk the franchise. ITs not a good thing.

Brian Sleider on Apr 22, 2015

Harry Potter splits were good and Mockingjay Part One was good.

Tuomas Lassila on Apr 22, 2015

I thought the first pt7 of Harry potter was terrible. Like a 2 hour long slow camping trip. Mocking jay in NO WAY needed 2 films. Thats the problem I have with the splitting. Doing it to make and sell another movie instead of making it because you need that time to tell the story.

Brian Sleider on Apr 22, 2015

Avengers: Infinity War will still be awesome.

Tuomas Lassila on Apr 22, 2015

Im sure it will be, it being 2 parts has nothing to do with this discussion.

Brian Sleider on Apr 22, 2015

DEATH CURE is a really bad title...I hope they can do a real turnaround on the source material as it left a lot to be desired.

DAVIDPD on Apr 20, 2015

Agreed. Plenty of folks in Westeros that would just LOVE to have one of those.

Mark Brackney on Apr 25, 2015

I know this is off topic Anderton, but did you hear Marvel has found writers for Captain Marvel film? 😀

Tuomas Lassila on Apr 20, 2015

Good for them. That you for not milking it.

Brian Sleider on Apr 21, 2015

Good. Getting damn sick and tired of supposedly ONE film being SPLIT-in-HALF.
