Move Over Harrison Ford, Disney Wants Chris Pratt as Indiana Jones

Chris Pratt

After making huge waves as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy last year, and probably turning in another solid performance in Jurassic World coming this summer, it looks like Chris Pratt may have even bigger shoes to fill soon. Deadline is reporting that the "Parks & Recreation" star is being eyed to star in Disney's inevitable revival of the Indiana Jones franchise. The studio bought the rights form Paramount in 2013 around the same time they picked up Lucasfilm, so we've known for awhile that some kind of new Indiana Jones adventure would be happening, but we weren't sure if Harrison Ford would come back.

However, the report cautions that it's still early days on the development of the project, though Pratt is Disney's man for the job as the archaeologist and adventurer in a whole new franchise. That likely means there won't be any ties to the original movies, which is probably the best way to go. While I enjoy Pratt as an actor, what he's doing with Star-Lord, and even seemingly in the trailer for Jurassic World seems a lot like Indiana Jones already, so this almost seems like too familiar a role for him to take. Anyway, Pratt is lined up for The Magnificent Seven next, and we'll see how this new Indiana Jones franchise develops.

That's a good good idea. No shialeboufin' is good

toonfed on Jan 27, 2015

haha I totally forgot the train wreck that was Indy 4. We should thank the movie gods that Lucas is now retired.

Sascha Dikiciyan on Jan 27, 2015

my opinion is biased because I like Shia. But he certainly wasn't what was wrong that INDY 4.

Jon Odishaw on Jan 27, 2015

What's Indy 4? There was a fourth film?

TheOct8pus on Jan 28, 2015

I thing he looks like an older filled out version of him. Maybe Ford is returning one last time to pass on the federa

Steven on Jan 27, 2015

Well I suppose Ford will always be the ultimate Indy jones. But if we must move on, i don't think Pratt isn't such a bad choice. I enjoyed his performance in GOTG.

Sascha Dikiciyan on Jan 27, 2015

I like Indiana Jones movies and Pratt is a great choice, because he has fun in his genes . Great choice!!

ari smulders on Jan 27, 2015

No different to Ford being "too familiar" in all of his action roles.

Al Apone on Jan 27, 2015

Well, I'll say one thing, Pratt in the lead would be one less thing to worry about re: an Indy reboot / continuation. I imagine it's gonna be tricky enough already - like up against a giant scimitar wielding bearded bad guy with no bullets tricky. Seems like Harrison & Pratt would have some wicked chemistry. (in my head anyway - if they're looking to pass the proverbial torch... er... whip?)

avconsumer2 on Jan 27, 2015

As long as there's no cgi gophers or monkeys, what the feck were they about? Pratt is pretty good, though, seeing in something original would be better.

Carpola on Jan 27, 2015

Okay Disney, you got my interest.

Tuomas Lassila on Jan 27, 2015

But wait, if Disney makes new Indiana Jones film, does that mean Indiana Jones might make it in a future Kingdom Hearts?

Tuomas Lassila on Jan 27, 2015

As long as it's taking for KH games, I'm sure...

stavi82 on Jan 28, 2015

I could get on board with this, Although Id rather just make a new hero in the same vein. Pratt has the draw to get asses in seats on an unknown property.

Brian Sleider on Jan 27, 2015

Is there a secret conspiracy in Hollywood to destroy everything decent they have ever made?

bestfriend on Jan 27, 2015

No, it's no longer a secret!!

theslayer5150 on Jan 27, 2015

a WAY better choice than Shia. Pratt would definitely be on my Top 3 actors to play Indy. And don't forget, Pratt is also going to be starring in "Cowboy Ninja Viking" (f***ing love that name).

JBroti on Jan 27, 2015

Best decision ever! He is the perfect candidate.

Mr Chatterbox on Jan 27, 2015

Either him or Cooper, definitely. I'll take Pratt first though.

OfficialJab on Jan 27, 2015

Good choice. Cooper will be a better fit i think.

Rock n Rollllll on Jan 27, 2015

Harrison just has that charisma where the humor he used in his movies was actually funny and clever. Filling these shoes will not be easy. I like Pratt but i just hope he doesnt bring in that cheesy humor he used on GOTG.

Rock n Rollllll on Jan 27, 2015

Cheesy humor he used? Do you think he walks into the shot and makes up those jokes on the spot. It's the writing! Then he has to act!

Sky on Jan 27, 2015

You know what else comes with acting?! Improvisation. He stated in an interview for GOTG that there have been many adaptations to Star Lord and Gunn just asked him to be himself - so there you go. I'm not saying hes a bad actor, all im saying is that the Indiana Jones Harrison played was flawless and id hate to see another classic get ruined on a new adaptation.

Rock n Rollllll on Jan 28, 2015

Dude, you are reaching so much. There is improvisation on set... but have you ever been on a set. They do 100 takes of what is on the page, then they do 3 with improvisation. I actually know this, because I DO THIS. By defending your argument here, you made yourself sound less like you know what is happening on a set than before, it made you sound more ignorant.

Sky on Jan 28, 2015

What do you do exactly?

Rock n Rollllll on Jan 28, 2015

I'm an Actor & Well i think your wrong about the Chris's ability. You never mentioned a Set, i did, that sentence is just trying to distract from the point. I love though that you have already decided that it will be a disappointment. You are exactly the person we are making movies for, people that hate stuff before a script has even been written.

Sky on Jan 28, 2015

"You are exactly the person we are making movies for, people that hate stuff before a script has even been written." Oh wow! And this whole time i just thought they are too lazy to be original.

Rock n Rollllll on Jan 29, 2015

I'm a Second City Graduate and UCB Graduate. Yes i know that acting comes with Improv. I DO IMPROV EVERYDAY. Do you know that writers sit in writes chairs right next to a director, and THEY dont like it when you go off script on 200 million dollar movies. They do let you improvise, but not as much as you think man... I KNOW THIS!

Sky on Jan 29, 2015

well if you watch Parks and Rec(I would) then you would know that he plays the biggest idiot. So I wouldn't judge his future from his past.

Jon Odishaw on Jan 27, 2015

For some strange reason...I'm okay with this. He's got the charisma and ability, and honestly, I couldn't think of a better actor that's more qualified than Pratt right now (Bradley Cooper is a bit too old for the part if they're planning on making a new franchise out of it.) I think Pratt would play a decent Nathan Drake as well imo...

RAW_D on Jan 27, 2015

He needs to watch Raiders of the Lost Ark a few hundred times and take extensive notes. He doesn't need to imitate Harrison Ford; but his portrayal needs to be abundantly influenced by Ford's work.

DaveLister_JMC on Jan 27, 2015

I don't like this at all. Indiana Jones is not just snark and charm. He's a freaking archeologist, with a big brain, and a nerd for history. Pratt is not at all believable s that.

David on Jan 27, 2015

Eh... I see what you're getting at, but I can't recall Pratt getting any parts that require a semblance of intelligence. Harrison was indeed a master at those (snark, charm, and intelligence / seriousness). Maybe we'll see some of it in Jurassic World (paleontologist). Pretty excited to see how he handles that one.

avconsumer2 on Jan 28, 2015

One never knows after Heath I'll never say never again. BUT I'm just not all happy about it. Cooper is much better for this he's got the acting chops, he's shown the comedic side, and he's only got four years on Pratt so I don't know where all this he's too old talk is coming from. Otherwise wait it out let some guys that are good but missing the years co, e up like a Miles Teller, JGL, or Shia who I thought worked be as the film was I don't think it was shias fault

David on Jan 28, 2015

Might as well give him Han Solo too while you're at it!

Adam Unger on Jan 27, 2015

This is relevant, right?

zer0limit on Jan 27, 2015

I wonder if they've considered mo-capping Harrison Ford for an animated Indiana Jones? His age wouldn't matter then and The Adventures of Tintin was a better Indiana Jones film than Crystal Skull.

eurogibbon on Jan 27, 2015

It does make sense....but it's also too obvious. Star Lord = Han Solo....Ford didn't get noticed until he was Pratt's age (35) many similarities.

TheOct8pus on Jan 28, 2015

Thats a perfect choice, I think he would do a great job! He would also be good to play Nathan Drake in Uncharted!! The next action adventure hero in the makings!

Someonewhocares on Jan 28, 2015

No one can fill Ford's shoes.

royisbatty on Jan 28, 2015

Steven Spielberg must be rolling in his grave right now.

Preet on Jan 28, 2015

I think he's still rolling from how shit 'Crystal Skull' was.

M_LokSatta on Jan 30, 2015

Yet another completely unnecessary "reboot"...ugh.

cuckoozey on Jan 28, 2015

He's older, but I think Hugh Jackman would be a great Indy. He knows how to carry a franchise, he's got the acting chops and the gravitas for Indy...
