Must Watch: Tom Hanks in Spielberg's 'Bridge of Spies' First Trailer
by Alex Billington
June 5, 2015
"We need to have the conversation our governments can't." Disney has debuted the first trailer for Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies, formerly his "Untitled Cold War" thriller, starring Tom Hanks, an American lawyer recruited by the CIA during the Cold War to help rescue a pilot detained in the Soviet Union. This looks like Spielberg is back at his best, telling an intense but focused story of how one man had to make the right decisions to make sure our planet didn't fall into war (again). This footage looks dark but stunning, as expected, since Spielberg is working again with DP Janusz Kaminski. The cast includes Amy Ryan, Alan Alda, Sebastian Koch and many others. Get your first look at footage from the new Spielberg film below.
Here's the first official trailer for Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies, found on YouTube:
You can also still see the first official poster for Bridge of Spies, revealed yesterday, right here.
Bridge of Spies, originally titled St. James Place, is directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Steven Spielberg (of Lincoln, War Horse, The Adventures of Tintin and The BFG most recently) with a script originally by Matt Charman and rewritten by Oscar-winning writing/directing duo Joel & Ethan Coen. The film follows James Donovan, an attorney who negotiated the release of downed U-2 spy plane pilot Francis Gary Powers, who was held and interrogated by the KGB and imprisoned for espionage after being shot down for flying over Soviet airspace in 1960. Amy Ryan, Alan Alda and Mark Rylance also star in the DreamWorks film. Walt Disney's Touchstone Pictures will release Bridge of Spies in theaters this fall on October 16th, 2015.

This is it. Spielberg is god. At least to me his movies just have something most others don't. I can't pin point it really. It's just his craft. Its like magic! However I am still bummed that Williams isn't scoring it.

It's a standard procedure in many countries. Why should US be different?

It's not standard procedure where I live. But the US did really lose the plot during the Cold War.

Believe me, I am happy this isn't standard in other countries. I convince myself I also live in a such country ... As for the US, yes, they do have issues with killing people ...

It's funny that the right to defence is always lorded as some great thing, but in reality insanity always wins. I suppose like lots of other stuff that is only respected when it suits. Strangely enough my father-in-law was in Berlin during the cold war, he used to have to de recon missions into East Berlin, the Russians knew they were there and would follow them around, but the soldiers were so poor they would throw cigarettes to them and they would fight over them. Strange days indeed. Without Russia and India, the allies would have lost the war, it's a bit sad how it went really.

What else to say but agree with you on the end. Too vast is the topic to discuss it over the net ...

It will be nice, intense movie. But, is this announcing a new era of cold war? Hope not. And, by the way, since Disney is in it; they can kill people but are not allowed to say 'fuck'?

Spielberg has so much ability. Hanks has the skill. If this does not get a few Academy Nominations I will be shocked.

Am i the only person that thought this looked stupid??? If it didnt have Spielbergs name on it, it would just be some other boring historical drama. Stop acting like this looks amazing...It doesnt. It looks just like any other spy or war drama movie. Spielberg used to be an amazing game-changing director who created whole new worlds in his movies and now hes just an average historical drama movie director. I see nothing special about this movie other than the fact that it has Spielberg and Tom Hanks names on it.

Dont be a self-loathing douchebag. All your doing on here is talking shit to people who dont share your view that "Spielberg is a god". His last 3 movies have all been shitty historical dramas that only the critics have liked. The critics arnt always right, and most of the time those so called "critics" are paid off by production companies to say good things about their movies.

Nice... a film about the Glienicker Brücke... this bridge is a special place in berlin. many people dont know what happened there during the cold war. it is nice that spielberg picked up this topic. maybe this film helps some people to learn something more about the german history after the second world war.

Where are you getting that this is propaganda? It looks very critical of the US here.

Take away the generic stock action music and we'll have a top notch trailer. John Williams is turning in his grave.....oh wait...nevermind.

I look forward to seeing this. I like anything documenting incidents of the cold war. I was an infantry scout stationed in Berlin before the wall came down. The years spent in Germany are some of the best of my life. I have been to Glienicker Brucke many times as part of my patrol duties as a scout on wall patrol. I am well aware of its significants in history and I want everyone to know about it, as well as the sacrifices and deaths that occurred during the Cold War. Most people seem to think we just stood on opposite sides of the border and stared at each other.
